Formation

Does anybody else feel that we would benefit in a change from 4-5-1??

Personally I would like to see us play a more traditional 4-4-2 with a bit of width!

Never seen the away leg of the Intertittie but was at the home leg and we were so narrow it was unbelievable, we played everything through the centre of the pitch and the few times we did get wide we looked fairly dangerous and if we had a striker who could get a Mastercard under his feet when he jumps we might get goals this way.

On another note, how feckin bad are our corners?

Anyone remember our last goal from a corner?

Re: Formation

I have said this for a while although I am unsure of the 4-4-2 formation as it could leave us looking a bit flat.

We have two quality attacking midfielders, Shiels and Zuma, 3 if you include Yantorno.

We need a formation that would accomodate at least two of these players.

I know this is a long shot but it's worth a try.
---------McNiel--------

VZ---Hogg---Hanlon

-------Murray------

Zuma---Shiels-----Yantorno

Fletcher----Nish-----Benji

Is preaseason not all about juggling your team and forations to find the best fit?

4-4-2
Murray and Keenen (if he signs) for the dig in the centre Zoomer and Yantorno (also if he signs) for a bit of creativity.

I hate 4-5-1. If we want an adventurous line up lets go for 3-5-2 instead [3-1-4-2 in actuality]. Might get a couple of humpings but with the right [ish] player in the right position we could score a few as well.

score? what's that I can't remember when that last happened.

I know it's only pre-season but surely out of 3 matches a solitary goal isn't too much to ask. I said I'd be happy with getting a goal in Sweden but we couldn't even manage that (although Nish showed tremendous skill in controlling the ball on his chest, bringing it down and putting it wide of the far post after the Keeper had dived at his near post

).

The goalless run stretches more than 3 games anaw!

So you might be right Dub, something has to change.

Re: Formation

Your right, we need to change something.

Personally I think the root of our problems is the formation (and some players obviously)

We need to try and accomodate our creative midfielders becuase it's them who create most the chances for the forwards is it not.

At this moment in time I doubt Hibs players could score in leith sauna with a wedge of cash [come to think of it I havent scored for a while either]. One things for sure, 4-5-1 and pumping balls up to rhyming slang isnt going to make for a goalfest every week so Hibs really need to try something else.

If we go out in the next friendly and play an attacking formation and end up getting beaten but scoring a couple of goals I would be more pleased than if went out with the Walter Smith tactical handbook and achieved a highly unthrilling 0-0 draw [Dont forget guys and gals its all about the fitness - gtf its about getting fit and winning at the same time Mixu].

So, come on Mixu - show some bottle and get us back into fast flowing devil may care footie. we still have enough quality about the side [except RS] to achieve this but we wont if they are all crowded around the centre circle.

Absolutely, lets go back to the days where Hibs used to scare a team going forward!

Re: Formation

Apart from the formation which I dont like, there is no balance to the team at the moment.

In Sweden, our midfield 5 consisted of Murray, Chisholm, Shiels with Fletcher on the right and O'Brien on the left.

All of these players are left footed ( I think). Its just basics like that, that could help us improve.

Also, Fletcher playing as the wide right midfielder/forward is not the answer. He was our top goalscorer last season and is a centre forward. I cant remember him getting to the byline and whipping in any crosses against Elsborg, he just shouldn't be playing there.

4-5-1 is great if you have a midfield that is willing to get into the box but if zemmama is out who does that for Hibs? I think the only reason we play 4-5-1 is to flood the midfield as we are very lightweight in this department.I would definitely like to see a 4-4-2 but we need two solid midfield players that are strong and can put a foot in and let the creative players do their stuff. This is just an example honest! but someone similar to Scott Severin ( ouch!!) is what is required.Sorry but I could not think of an alternative example!!!
