Should Hibs fans run the club?

Simple question that runs pretty deep. I'd like to open the discussion.

Is it better to have Hibs fans on the board or not?

Is it important to have Hibs fans running the club? If they're not fans of Hibs, what are they doing there anyway? Should non-Hibs fans on the boards explain themselves?

My opinions here are probably pretty obvious but I'm pretty open minded about the matter. I'm often wrong about Hibs stuff (among other things) and happy to admit it.

Shoot.....

I think a balance of business minds and Hibs fans would be a roaring success.

Petrie, Hibby as he claims to be is clearly dominated by the business ££££ side of his brain....we need Hibbys in the boardroom to make our frustrations and desires heard.

I'd like to see a couple of 'Hibs-minded' folk on the Board - just as I like to see Hibs fans grow and play for the Club. However, the team they support comes a long way back from ability etc.
Just because they support the Club (in the Boardromm) doesn't mean that they will take better decisions. One of the biggest Hibs fans (in several ways!) we have had running Hibs was big Malky. Nobody could douby his Hibs credentials, or indeed his professional knowledge of business etc.
He was the guy who sacked Le God and appointed Blobby.

Just as an aside - I've never heard Rodders claim to be a Hibs fan as such although as his job depends upon it I guess he is as much a Hibby as any of us. (His boyhood team was Aberdeen)
Our Chief Executive I seem to remember from somewhere grew up a Killie fan.

I suppose the bottom line is, if the Board are doing a good job then they could all be closet Huns for all I care.

Actually no - that's a step too far.

A Killie fan and a Sheepy I can tolerate, but a Gunt or Hun.........even a patronising Soapy would be deemed unacceptable to this juror.

I'd prefer the entire structure of the club was run by Hibbies, not some token fan or two on the board. Democratise the club.

Re: Should Hibs fans run the club?

I would rather see a board full of hibbys but the questions still lies, would they make the better desicions for the club as a whole?

Could they be blinded by thier green goggles?

yes obviously they could be but in general I do think they would do a better job than the board we currently have. If they truely loved and supported the club then they would do what was needed to be done to ensure Hibs stay a major force in the league and keep out of debt. Stick to a more compramising outcome than just totally jumping on the whole "debt free" badwagon that pertrie is driving.

We can be debt free and a strong side, all we need is ambition which the current board and Rodders currently lack.

Funnily enough i shared a flight with the Dunfermline chairman and huge fan John Yorkston a couple of weeks ago.

I bumped into him again in Barcalona a few days later and he was proudly wearing his Dunfermline Athletic T-shirt.

Got me thinking...

Yorkie has done a great job - in bringing Dunfermline to its knees.

I bet the shirt was a freebie too.

Good point though.
It makes me eternally grateful to think that Yorkston isn't anywhere near our Club.

Difference is that a doctor will be able to judge your condition based on symptoms, and can be completely objective about his diagnosis.

Running a football club is almost an entirely subjective thing. The main source of all income for the club comes direct from the support. Sponsors etc are interested in Hibs because of the support the club carries. Selling corporate packages mostly go to fans with dough. Merchandise is obviously mainly bought by supporters. So keeping the fans happy is the primary objective in running a club as a succesful business.

I don't think it would be good for the club to be run entirely by Hibs minded folk. It needs a neutral or two to keep feet on the ground.
