Hibernian boss Mixu Paatelainen is unsure if Alan O'Brien will still be at Easter Road next season.

O'Brien has been linked with a move away from Hibs after struggling to make an impact since his arrival from Newcastle United last summer.

The winger started just six matches in the SPL last season and is reportedly wanted by Blackpool, Carlisle United, Hartlepool United and Preston North End.

Paatelainen insists no approaches have been received for the 23-year-old, but is not guaranteeing O'Brien's future at the club.

"There is always speculation, especially at this time of year," said Paatelainen in the Daily Record. "We've seen it with Steven Fletcher, Clayton Donaldson, Benji, O'Brien, Rob Jones and others.

"All these stories are just rumours at the moment rather than anything truthful.

"Time will tell whether they stay that way or not. It will all depend on the circumstances and if I'm being honest I don't know whether Alan will still be here next season."

I dont suppose I have ever seen greater evidence of how much the game has changed than that.

In the past , a player signed a contract and until it was up the only person who controlled the players movement was his manager.

Reading between the lines, it appears that perhaps Mixu is putting out a come and get him message. I notice the lack of "he is an important player to me and I want him to stay".
