Unsung Hibs Heroes

Let's hear your Hibs legends that have been overlooked and undervalued by history. I'll start off with...

Kevin McAllister.

For a boy plucked from obscurity for peanuts Kev gave Hibs a brilliant return. His dribbling was absolutey classic, foot-stuck-to-the-ball hugging the touchline stuff. Even though he lacked pace his skills left plenty folk on their arses and he had a tasty dig too. There was a period when he was absolutely on fire - I mind a four player 'we're not worthy' on the knees celebration after one of his particularly spectacular goals. Most of all McAllister had class - can you imagine him taking a theatrical roll n tumble if someone clipped his heels as he was belting down the wing.

Top lad. Anyone else not get the recognition they deserve for their contribution to the jersey?

A couple of years back when I was still in Lanark I bumped into Tom Smith at Esporta in Hamilton. he had left Hibs but was quite happy to still be going around in Hibs gear. I had a long chat to him and it was clear he had a lot of happy memories from his time at Hibs, said he was well treated by the club from having to retire through injury and clearly had a lot of good feelings for us as a club.

Top guy.

Agreed.

A fantastic entertainer who surely would have had caps galore if he played for more 'fashionable' sides. I remember a game at Perth where the fullback basically walked away from him after he'd been tormented and then nutmegged for good measure.

I like Neil too. Often under rated, and actually quite a hard bassa with a decent bit of skill. I remember a top corner screamer at ER against maybe Aberdeen which was absolutely ferocious.

Yes again - I have a pic on the wall of the occasion I presented Derek Collins with 'Man of the Match'.... Lawrie Reilly told me I was spot on.

Tom Smith was a decent player too but for some reason didn't seem to get fans backing. Maybe because we were 'in transition' during his spell here.

Mention for Calum Milne?

He wasn't the best footballer (by a long shot), but I always had time for him. He always gave 100% (along with kano & geebsie), and definately wasn't shy in going in hard when needed.

Paul Fenwick and Gary Smith for me. With Sauzee behind (or in front) of them, they formed the most solid defence that I can remember seeing in the green and white. They complimented each other well, and gave me, and many other fans, the most enjoyable season I've had as a Hibee. Wathing Hibs was a joy then, and we fielded practically the same starting XI week-in, week-out.
There were others from that team too, that got more credit, but maybe still not enough - Ulrik Laursen, John O'Neil, Nick Colgan.

Great shout.

I recall him taking a free kick (think it was his birthday that day - dunno why I remember that) which he bent round the wall into top corner.
Spoilsport ref said he wasn't ready and told him to retake it - which he did, into opposite top corner.

I always thought that he tended to pass the ball into the net rather than shoot, and was a better player than the poseur at Morton (Andy Ritchie) who also preferred to make the ball work for him rather than break into an unnecessary amble, but was the darling of the sports journos.

I like the suggestions of Crunchie and Neil Orr. The former was just great for Hibs and the latter was underrated in my opinion.

I never hear many mentions of Des Bremner from Hibs fans these days. I thought he was a tremendous player and served Hibs very well for a number of years. A class player who played with his heart on his sleeve.

along with kevin mcallister i liked michael oneil on the other wing they both created lots of chances for wright jackson and sometimes harper.

I also liked big matty jack thought he was at his best when put in the holding role in front of the defence

have to agree with gordon hunter. the guy was the last player to get a testimonial and was at the club for 340 odd appearances. he also scored a very important goal for us and im sure he bled green and white.

Booooooooooooooo!!!!!!! Thought he was absolutely murder and was delighted when he was dropped for the cup final. Then he spent his weekly column in the Scotland On Sunday slating Hibs. Canut! Anyway, he was bought as a centre forward, didn't cut it, moved to right wing, then centre midfield - no good. Erm, how about right full back? Well, at least it kept him out of the way most of the time!
So, back to your original point... yes, controversial!
