Could a former Hibs player score the winner in a UEFA Cup final?

I'm hoping for Kevin Thomson...

Own Goal, obviously.

Re: Could a former Hibs player score the winner in a UEFA Cup final?

That raises an interesting question as to whether an ex Hibs player has ever scored in a major European final covering Fairs Cup,Uefa Cup, Cup Winners Cup, European Cup or Champions League.

There is obviously one but I can't think of any more.

Oh yeah there is another one at least and it was yonks ago as well .....and long may it stay at this number.

I can think of three before I check this sam - you're obviously forgetting Ulrik Laursens own goal in Seville

I remember the goal but always thought Derlei was credited with the goal rather than Uli.

George Best obviously though Stevie Archibald I wasnt sure about either as I didn't think he scored in a final for Spurs or Barca.

Colin Stein for 'Scotland's Shame' was my other one.
Did you have anymore as I like these mindless bits of trvia.

It was credited to Derlei, but, it'll always be an Ulrik own goal to me at least.

The other two were the ones I was thinking of, Archie never scored for Spurs or Barcelona in the finals.

I thought Peter Cormack might have, but didn't and a bit of research yielded the nugget that the late Alex Scott scored for Rangers v Fiorentina in one of the first Cup Winners Cup finals.

Good research

I got as far as the 'Scotland Shame's team of 1961 but concluded that none of then had ever played for Hibs.

3, I mean 4 it is then.

Re: Could a former Hibs player score the winner in a UEFA Cup final?

We can go one better than most when talking of ex-players scoring in European finals. What about ex-Hibs brothers doing the business. Not only did Alex Scott score for the huns against Fiorentina in the Cup Winner's Cup Final of 1961 but his brother and ex Hibby Jim Scott done the same for Newcastle United against Ujpest Dozsa in the 1969 Fairs Cup Final.
