Its amazing how this thread and the David Murray thread always drop back to racism,which both are clearly not.

I now think many use These threads to suit there own agenda's,why not just start a new thread and not hijack these one's.

Where do I say that I'm offended? Why do you assume that, when all I'm pointing out is that people who give shit out should be prepared to take a little back. So people (not necessarily me) should just shut up and not comment when they don't like something they are hearing and which in many cases seems abusive or uncalled for?

The reason people keep relating this to racism is because society as a whole appears to accept that racist chanting and abuse is not acceptable at football any more. If you agree with that (?), then why is it that other types of verbal abuse cannot be questioned, and are just written off as people having a laugh and others being too sensitive? i actually get bored with it,would you take offence (apart for obvious reasons but in a racist sense),if i called you in the presumption you are white, a white bastard or would it be more offensive from a "non-white",is one comment racially offensive and one offensive or is bastard the problem.

Do american films show blacks calling blacks the N word,yes,and its accepted,to me too much is made of it from non blacks.

Its the context its used in that decides if or if not its racist.Again imo only.

I was just letting people know Deano's opinion of the matter.
FWIW, I think it's a pretty horrible thing to say to someone but I've shouted equally horrible things at opposing players. I'm not saying that it's okay to do this, but if you feel that you can gain an advantage over an opposing player by "getting in their head" either with personal attacks (as we've seen towards many players at ER this season, most noticably Gary Caldwell - tho that fud deserves everything he gets!) or constant booing whenever they touch the ball, I think it's understandable.
So, to summarise, coz I think I've contridicted myself a few times, I think it's wrong! As is racism, sexism, sectarianism, and being a naughty boy. Phew.

I think I've said a few times that it's not only about racism. It's about verbal abuse in general. So I don't know where you get the idea that I'm obsessed with the issue of racism. You've lost me on the point about racists dragging this up to suit their own agendas, I'm afraid. I also don't know how you arrive at the conclusion that I'm a fully paid up member of the PC brigade
just because I think people are entitled to question and challenge verbal abuse.

With the "white bastard" thing... no it wouldn't offend me but then I've never been in a position where this term has been aimed at me or my people in a threatening manner. If it had been, I might feel differently.

As for your other points about too much being made of certain words in films and that its the context that decides - you might be surprised to hear I agree with you on that. I just don't know what the context is for singing songs/shouting about people without legs, one eye or different skin colour. Is it football?

By the way, I don't know what the praying smiley was all about before because you are unlikely to find me within the vicinity of a church unless there's a wedding on.

A lot has been said on the subject, and repeating the same line of arument does get tiring. I've made my points and so have you so...
