"punctuated by loan spells at Yeovil and Gillingham"

What on earth happened to this guy? He was a good player at Easter Road.

As was pointed out by others he had a lot of very good players around him in his previous spell..

Sorry but this move doesn't give much confidence to our summer moves.

Lots of people said good things about him before but I never saw him much myself.

It's only a trial so we can't really lose.

Quite likely he is not the same player as in 2004. But as has been pointed out it's only a trial so can't do any harm. Mixu will assess him on that. Not exactly the midfield maestro I'm hoping for to be honest though.

Re: Rocastle - Almost offical (i have links too)

I suspect Mixu is just giving him a chance for old times sake.
His career peaked at Hibs, and if he didn't show enough to get a deal at St Midden then that doesn't look too promising. I'm not sure that we actually need a player of his type now in any event.
Having said that, if Mixu reckons he can do a job for us as a squad player then maybe that's what will happen.

I agree with Smurf's sentiments (I think) that we should be seeking out a bit better calibre player than rescuing someone whose career has stalled.

But would he not have had reasonable players around him at Sheffield Wednesday, K?

I agree with your point though. It sounds like another bargain basement effort. I hope he proves our pessimism unfounded. Likewise for future transfer targets.

He's not succeded anywhere he's went since he left us at the beginning of 2006.

And he's been around since...

As the Doc says we should be looking at players of a better calibre than that.

Actually, we've currently got better who can't get a game..

He was a good player for us. My hope about this is that he only looks good when he's playing with better players than he has been.

i can see another mcmanus situation where he'll be emptied after the trial. St Mirren rejected him that says it all, but you never know with some of the pish we have at the moment he surely can't be any worse.

Re: Rocastle - Almost offical (i have links too)

Where does it say he was rejected by St.Mirren??

When he was last here he was FAR more effective than Kerr and if he can play like that again for us I'd take him back.

Re: Rocastle - Almost offical (i have links too)

Its interesting seeing the number of Hibs fans who say they have never seen him or heard of him bit strange if you ask me....

Thought he was not a bad player but hes going to have to prove alot to the fans and from the sounds of it hes had quite a depressing time down South so lets hope he brings something to the team that Kerr and Boozy have not most of this season.

Re: Rocastle - Almost offical (i have links too)

I thought Rocastle done a good job when he was last here, and I was disappointed when he left. He is a strong, physical player who could be adding some much needed strength to our midfield. Rocastle and Ian Murray may be ideal in the engine room of our midfield.

I'm sure there will be more attacking, creative players arriving this summer as well. It's all about getting the balance right, and there is no harm in Mixu having a look at the guy in training and then making a considered decision. If he doesn't shape up then so be it.

He isn't playing in the same team and style of the 03/04 team, he won't be here long therefore. Hope he proves me wrong but Chisholm, Stevenson, Lynch and a host of U17s are the choice for me likesay.

I agree with Greenmachine

He looked strong in the air and in the tackle when here last time
He did the simple things well and brought impetus to the play going foreward

Why his career seems to have stalled since he left is mysterious

Re: Rocastle - Almost offical (i have links too)

I thought rocastle looked good alongside Boozy. Sometimes players have a chemistry that is greater than the sum of the parts.

With Boozy no doubt leaving(?), maybe a waste of time?

Open minded though, a defensive midfielder as back to Murray is required.
