David Murray

I didn't hear the chant. Probably the same guys that kept singing the Mercer song (at a Huns game???). Why did the Hacks no' report the Mercer song then? Surely that's actually more offensive?

Scottish Premier League: Hibs 0-0 Rangers | Football | The Guardian

It should be legitimate to assume, then, that Hibs' followers would have better things on their minds than indulging in chants relating to Sir David Murray, the Rangers chairman. Clearly audible verse from Easter Road's East Terrace pointed out that Murray "has no legs" and "is a cripple" while songs in support of Celtic could also be heard at full-time. A timely reminder for those who mistakenly believe small-mindedness and vitriol at football matches is restricted to the west of Scotland.

That twat Ewan Murray (presumably no relation) never misses an opportunity to criticise Hibs. Not defending the songs, but I'd be surprised if Murray has ever written about hearts fans mocking Dean Shiels in relation to his disability.

Cameron slated the Hearts fans on his next show after the Deano song IIRC.
To be honest going to a football match to sing about a dead Hearts chairman and sing about an owner of another football club who had an accident that left him disabled is beyond me.
I know it was only a few but as said on another thread the 30 or 40 odd who sang, just tarnished Hibs good name for a cheap shot sang in 2 mins remembered for a very long time afterwards .

There is two small groups who do it.

One sits right in the corner next to the away support.

The other are right under the walkway to the tv gantry, as far back as you can go.

Gotta be less than 30 or 40, I didn't hear it and I was in the East the whole match. There were only about 3 or 4 singing the Mercer song.

Re: David Murray

Sat in the West Lower, I never heard any songs about David Murray. What "tune" were they sung to?
The Mercer song was clearly audible on several occassions though.
The "Celtic" issue has already been covered on a separate thread.

Re: David Murray

I think it’s a real pity that most of our songs are negative about the opposition rather than positive towards us.

I canny really see our players getting all geed up and raring to go after a couple of verses of chairmen with no legs or dead or we hate everybody except us – its time to be more positive.

Its not as if we, as a support, don’t have some famous song writers among us.

Cumoan Craig, Charlie :rock_band:, Fish :band: and the rest of you :multiplespotting: – you’ve got the summer to geeze a tune or ten!!!!!

PM the tune to me if you want to keep your user names a secret :peepwall: :spyme: :peepwall:

Sadly, a few no-brains singing that stuff is all the ammunition that's needed for the above. It plays into their hands.

Agree completely with what Jack says above, time to start singing songs that support Hibernian and get away from this childish and offensive guff.

Re: David Murray

Firstly, I can't get my head around "the good name of Hibenian". Does the "good name" of ANY club actually exist For example Rangers fans think their club has a good name as do the yams etc, so for me the notion of Hibernian being tarnished by a few radges singing is a bit of a nonstarter.

Secondly, I think its a bit much to sing about Murray being a cripple (its about as clever as Deano getting it tight by the yams for having one eye), but on the other hand I have absolutely no problems with Hibs fans singing about Wallet. Whether we like it or not this IS an integral part of our clubs history and in my opinion one Hibernian hadn't faced since the inception of Celtc.

So on the one hand its not ok to sing about a disability, but ok to sing about a former yam chairman.

I kinda agree, but the fact that folk that do sing it either get ignored by the rest of us or, in the event of blatantly racist stuff, are challenged then in the grand scheme of things I don't think it's a big deal.

It's funny that the folk that are singing the Mercer song probably weren't even born in 1991. I'll get me pipe & baffies...

Re: David Murray

is it just me who honestly doesn't care about any of this? Ok these chants aren't in the best taste but this is a football game we're talking about, it's not like the massed hordes were traipsing round princes street worrying the general public. I for one would hate to see a sanitised, 'family' atmosphere at hibs. for years football was worse then it is now and kids went and it's hardly had an adverse effect. The people moaning on here after every game need to get a grip and remember that hibs are not some perfect club with a totally flawless record. "the good name of hibernian"? Is this why a lot of fans from other clubs regard us as scum/used to fear coming to easter road?

Anyway rant over. anyone singing such ditties should be banned for life, as should anyone standing, complaining about music before the game, not in favour of a giant teddy bear walking round the pitch before the game etc etc

Agree. The best way to deal with this, in my opinion, is to sling the chorus a deefie. Hibs are notorious due to the CCS. Like you say, how many away fans think we're a loveable support?

Different guy.

Ewan Murray - Yam twat who peddles rubbish for the Guardian and the Scotsman.

Ewan Cameron - Yam twat who peddles rubbish for Real Radio.

I can see the potential for confusion!

And more importantly, why should we give a fuck if we are seen that way or not?

I personally don't really care what other teams fans think of us. What I would say is that if there's stuff being sung that is going to completely piss off some of our own support then there should be a bit of a pause about whether that should be sung or not. The overwhelming reaction where I was sitting yesterday when the David Murray song was heard was people damn near pishing themselves laughing. Not the reaction I'm seeing on here today. Once again I'm left wondering if the internet is providing a very distorted view of what most Hibbies actually think due to some vociferous voices proclaiming things to be a disgrace and unilterally drowning out alternative opinions.

Completely agree. Now I know what the chant was (having read it here) I personally think it's a bit close to the bone but funny none the less. I think we should all get some more calluses on this fuckin' thin skin of ours.
