Hibs Badge

Does anyone have a history of our club crest with images?

I mind seeing the old hooped tops with the gothic HFC on them, did these tops also have Erin Go Bragh on them with the harp? Or was that a later ot earlier addition?

Feels like we've changed the badge about 50 times in my lifetime alone.

When did we get the new one, was it about 2001?

Cheers.

Re: Hibs Badge

dunno about the direct history with our bardge, but found this...

In 1847, a group of Irishmen serving in the United States Army during the U.S.–Mexican War deserted and joined the Mexican side. These soldiers, known as Los San Patricios, or Saint Patrick's Battalion, flew as their standard a green flag with a harp on it, with the motto "Erin Go Bragh" underneath[4]. Variations on this flag design have been used at different times to express Irish nationalism.

Same flag was flown by both the confederate Irish brigade and the Federal one when they fought each other at Fredericksburg too.

Did 'the san patricios' not all hang?

There was a 'Hibernian' regiment in the Spanish army in the 18th and 19th centuries too, made up of Scots and Irish exiles.

not all hung, some escaped before they were captured, but most died on the battlefield. there was apparently nearly 1000 of them at first, and included people of all european nationalities, not just irish.

tough fighters by all accounts...

The very first top in 1875 was a white jersey which was supposed to have a harp and EGB on it. I don't know if a photo exists of the first Hibs team wearing this.

Dont think the 1876 hoops had any sort of crest on them except for the HFC.

The new badge was designed in 2000 and went on the kit for 2000/2001 season.

I don't think we actually put a crest on our strips till the late 1970s (79 Cup final era)

Because they've all made the mistakes before and probably don't want to so again. Look at every single club on that sites late 80s to early 90s strips. They're all fucking mingin'. Mind Burridge's goaly top, that howfin' puke rainbow harlequin number? Or the neon yellow & black Hibs away top?

Check out Birmingham's 92-93 strip, what the fuck is this all about?

IIRC Scotland and Everton both had DREADFUL salmon pink shirts in the 90's. If you can find them you'll get a giggle.
