I agree but it weakened the midfield , i'd have played Hanlon at LB.
You don't stand at the back of the east do you ?

Re: A Good Win But..............

defo missed murray in midfield. that was the most powderpuff midfield i can recall seeing in recent memory, and really short.

my only theory as to why murray was at lb was to keep him out of the fray to some extent cos of his broken nose.

Re: A Good Win But..............

Full respect to your view but a bit harsh on the manager. I am sure he will get a couple of solid midfielders in the summer but is looking to build up height from the back (I am sure he said so in one interview?). In all fairness we have never looked as physical in midfield since thompson and brown left but I am sure we will sort that out next season.

I'm not slagging him for it but it could quite easily have backfired on him .
Hanlon has done very well and isn't exactly small , i note you live up north .... were you at tonights game ? if so would you say our midfield looked good ?

Could be said of the whole midfield apart from Chisholm, who worked his socks off.

Re: A Good Win But..............

Fragile....tried to look up a few words on the thesarus no luck when i type in Hibs. We have gone from Collins reducing the attacking players to give more balance to Mixu firing them across our mid 4.... He said himself we had no height in the team and did something about it in Jan. We look a bit powderpuff when we dont have the ball but I am happy that he is building up from the back. TBH, kinda wrote off the season when Collins left etc and any improvement a bonus. So in that sense I am a bit defensive for mixu as he has only a half season but I am happy.

I made it down tonight but the joy of victory was increased by staying with me old folks in the 'burgh for a free scran and beer

Greenmachine will become famous soon enough
Re: A Good Win But..............

In the previous two games against Motherwell this season their front three have ran us ragged. We had to do something to counter this threat and IMO Mixu wanted a solid experienced back four with Canning in at right back and the dependable Ian Murray at left back and tbf it worked for the most part as McCormack, Porter, and Clarkson were not nearly as effective as they were in the League Cup tie earlier in the season. Motherwell are a difficult team to play against, and IMO Mixu wanted an experienced solid back four to cope with the threat of a front three who have scored loads of goals between them this season.

Of course, this meant we were severely weakened in midfield when you consider Boozy was also out. The problem Mixu has is that he just does not have the right kind of players at the moment to get a proper balance in midfield. Kerr was getting a lot of stick from the fans tonight, but he was effectively being asked to do the job of two players. Zemmama and Morais for me are fine when we have the ball, but are just not willing to work hard enough to get the ball back when we lose it. This is something which I am sure Mixu will prioritise in the summer.

A very hard fought, tough win, but a very important and welcome one. It will be interesting to see what the manager does on Saturday with Murray out and Zemmama and Kerr both looking like they are injured.

What was the formation? Looked from the line-up that we'd be playing three at the back with two wide defensive midfielders. No?

Re: A Good Win But..............

I was thinking that myself when I saw the lineup. Perhaps as a counter to a player like Ross McCormack.

But no, it was just the 4-4-2 with Canning at right back and Murray at left.

I agree with Greenmachine on this and think Murray was in there to help counter their front 3.

He is wasted there though, and I would have replaced Kerr with Hanlon and swapped the two around at that point.

That said on Saturday I think Chisolm should most definately get his start. He has more than earned it coming off the bench and impressing.

Perhaps it is time for a recall for Stevenson as well, although he would really be up against Rankin and he has been superb since he came as well.

Midfield 4 of Chisolm, Rankin, Zemmama and Kerr
