Ian Murray

Was just on the Daily Retard website and looking at whats being said about tonights game and Murray is talking about emulating the sheep and getting to the later stages of the UEFA Cup.

Also at the bottom of his part he has been speaking with Mixu about extending his stay and that he doesnt want to leave.

Great news if correct IMHO.

I think it's imperative that we sign him up on a longer contract, ASAP.

C'mon Rodders, you know it makes sense!

Never mind UEFA Cups - or anything else for that matter.

The priority of the Hibernian Management Board should be the re-signing of Ian Murray on a lucrative long-term deal and the re-instatement of him as Club Captain.

The resigning bit i agree with.

Making him club captain, no.

Had to read that twice

But i agree, lets get him on a longer contract, although, even with him being outstanding for us this time, i dont think he can expect to resume the Captaincy, even if Jones is off at the end of the season,

a certain young Mr Hogg would be offered it first, for me

Re: Ian Murray

The 6 am talk 107 sports update yesterday morning suggested Murray wanted to stay on at the club, although I had heard otherwise.

When he left, I was not sad to see him head to the Hunnery, I thought he had lost his way and wasn't as good as he had been before his long injury.

However, since his return he has been excellent, a real stalward and looks like a great player once more. I hope we can afford to convince him to stay with us.

Hogg has to be one of the most improved players in the country. Great attitude aswell. As for Murray, it would be great to get him on a long term deal, and who knows maybe in the summer Mixu could lure a certain Mr Riordan back along the M8 in the right direction....or maybe i'm just getting carried away a bit!

Maybe the fact we thought he was shite when he left but has been excellent lately is because the team has deteriorated so much in the last 2/3 years

Liked his comment in the metro - "with he**ts struggling we can cement ourselves as Edinburghs top team

In Riordan's case,it looks increasingly like a return to ER is the last hope for a career that is well down the pan and a terrible waste. Murray has simply looked like he belonged here from the moment he returned and his attitude has been superb. I suspect that whatever he is looking for in wages will cause a negative twitch of the tache. I find it hard to believe that Hogg still has his critics - he's been an absolute rock and a model of consistency through some very rough patches in the season

Re: Ian Murray

He needs to get signed up on a deal soon, has been brilliant for us. However, dont believe he deserves to be captain, that should definately go to Hogg, think he should be it now; on Sunday showed he is much better suited to being a captain than Jones!

Hope Murray stays, also would be good if we brought back Riordon in the Summer, especially if we cash in on Fletcher at 4m. Don't want Fletcher to go, but...

Re: Ian Murray

Whether Ian Murrays signs a new contract with Hibs or not is entirely down to what kind of offer we make him, and how it compares with other clubs offers who may now be interested in him.

I hope he stays, but I don't think anything will be finalised till the end of the season when the player and his agent can see what other options are on the table.

Completely agree. Has hardly put a foot wrong this season and seems to be the natural leader at the back.

Why not club captain? The guy is a die hard Hibby who would relish the challenge of guiding the team. He has experience, is a good communicator and players look up to him. Jone's is not interested in Hibs and In my opinion, he is not tough enough. You never see him rallying the troops and urging them on. If Murray doesn't get it then, yes Hogg would be a popular replacement.

That's my point exactly. Murray has come full circle and if we feed him the responsibility of captaincy now I think he would not only relish it, but would blaze through opponents and drive the team forward.

I have no doubt of Hogg's ability - the guy's been a revelation and is clearly an organiser at the back. How much respect he commands throughout the team though is hard to determine?

For me, Rob Jones is a good centre half who does a good job. That, unfortunately, is about it.

I want my Captain to be the kind of guy who thinks 'my nose is broken, fuck it, I'm playing anyway...'.

I can't wait to see him piling in tonight.
