What if?

I know its a pointless thread but what if Hibs showed abit more ambition a few years ago and didnt sell all our top players and offered improved contracts (within reason) to hold onto the players for abit longer, where would we be now? challenging for the league? europe every year?
Obviously there was offers Hibs or some of the players couldnt turn down (eg. Brown, O'Conner + Murphy)

I know its good to be debt free but with hardly the same quality on the pitch it just makes u wonder what kind of team we couldve had.

I know its pointless but its just something that came up in the pub last night

GK - Maka
RB - Whittaker
LB - Murphy
CB - Hogg, Jones, Caldwell

Midfield - Brown, Thomson, Boozy, Sproule, Stewart, Zemmama, Sheils
Forwards - O'Conner, Riordan, Fletcher, Benji, Killen

Stick Agathe in there and swap calamity caldwell for Ulrik Laursen , add a quality experienced keeper, voila, Hibs domination.

I just had two, though, because my coach was saying I shouldn't eat so much nuggets before the race.."

Re: What if?

Its true, we could have been amazing but we would be heavily in debt although we would of eventually been able to sell these player on for more. There would be no talk of a new East stand and no new training centre.

Pros - possibility of a SC finally, wouldnt be far of the league, brilliant team and packed ER every week.

Cons - no new ES, no training complex, still in same/more debt, if no success we'd be fukced

Re: What if?

to be honest id take 15 years of mediocrity with a sub-par squad and a bit of lagging debt if it meant we had just 1 season of silverwear i.e. league/scottish cup. In my view the team above could easily have pushed rangers/celtic.

But still we have a shiny new stand coming

well with the training centre bought and paid for weve just got the east stand to build then theres nothing to spend the cash on except the playing side of the club, might be worth the wait

Exactly. We are setting ourself up nicely to be able to push on. in the long term we will majorly benefit while those scumbags sharing our city will crumble mwah hah aha

Re: What if?

to be honest we've been 'building for the future' for years. its a joke that a club of our size and with our history is more or less becoming a feeder club for our weedjie bretherin

I have to agree. Its a completely pointless thread. We had a team/teams with a combo of all of the above in them and won pretty much fukk all and we havent been in Europe every year Although having the choice of forwards you mention would be nice.

Sorry but i'm not convinced , we won't get near the old firm unfortunately
Our best players will still go west for the big money / champs league etc

Re: What if?

Rangers developed Castle Greyskull in the early eighties or something like that
and although we all had a laugh at them when they played in front of 10,000 folk in a half empty stadium they built up their corporate activity, generated revenue and invested all the extra money in their team.

Once they got some success back the gloryhunting, biggoted unwashed returned and the money came flooding back in again.

Hibs can now look to do they same but without the West Coast sectarian baggage. If we can get Rod to get the right people in to build revenue, improve communication with the fans and FFS invest in the playing squad, and match that with some success on the park then we can be in a much better position too.
