Damon Gray

Is going to Partick Thistle on a months loan. Shouldn't do him any harm

Re: Damon Gray

Should toughen him up playing in the 1st Div - Mixu hopefully fancies him for his first team breakthrough soon.

Re: Damon Gray

I think Gray is a prospect. Will do him good to get some competitive first team games under his belt as he must be getting a bit fed up with the lack of opportunities in the first team at Hibs. Anyone know how young Campbell is doing, haven't heard much about him lately?

Greenmachine will become famous soon enough
Re: Damon Gray

Damon Gray is going to be some player for us IMO...

Hopefully a wee loan spell to Thistle will benefit him and Hibs when he returns. His goalscoring record is phenomenal, you can't coach that into players. They are either born with a gift to score goals or they are not. I reckon Damon will be a first teamer next season.

Gray will prove to be a decent striker IMO. A loan spell could build his confidence and next year he will be banging on the door for a 1st team place.
Campbell was away with Scotland U19 the day of the Gretna game but not heard much more. There is an U20 game against Finland at the end of March so should get a game there as well.

Re: Damon Gray

I heard from a Partick fan the other week that Liam Buchanan was joining us in the summer - maybe the two are connected.

Re: Damon Gray

This is good new's imo, we have a lot of promising young players coming thru, but it is not the time just now to be introducing them into the first team, we need all the experience we have at the moment to aide our push up the table and into the SC final
Young players are always going to be the life blood of our club, and spending time on loan at lower league clubs gives them experience of competitive 1st team football, which will hopefully help them when the time is right for them to step up into our 1st team, and it is something I hope Mixu takes advantage of with more of our youngster's.
Maybe we could look into setting something up officially with a club who could take 3 or 4 of them at a time for either 6 mths or a year. I'm sure there would be plenty of clubs like Cowdenbeath or Livingston, who would be interested in this sort of arrangement

Buchanan is a Hibee, started off on the JT's books IIRC and then was playing under Mixu at Cowdenbeath and then on to Partick.

There was something in the paper recently that he got his car taken off him or something because his old man paid for it with profits from dealing in illegal substances (allegedly).

Hate to write someone off so young, but I don't fancy Campbells chances of making it with Hibs. He's way down the pecking order for the strikers and young players need to be playing in games if they're going to develop as much as they could. If he was going to make it he would at least be pretty regularly on the bench imo. That hasn't been the case with any of our last three managers. He doesn't have a lot of pace, he's a bit small, and he seems to do a lot of his work away from the dangerous areas. Doesn't mean he won't make it, but the chances are against him afaic.

Damon Gray on the other hand is someone who had a pretty bad injury when he was younger iirc? That sets a player back a bit in their development and when he has came into the first team squad he has not looked out of place at all imo. He looks like a penalty box striker, and if someone has that instinct and a decent attitude they can become a very good player.

I can't distinguish between Campbell & Gray..

Is Gray the guy who played v Dunfermline in the replay and scored at ER in the friendly v Boro in the summer?

Gray played against Dunfermline, but I think it was Campbell who scored against Boro (could be wrong about that). Gray scored against Aberdeen when we had the team of laddies out up at Pittodrie last season when he forced Diamond (I think) into the short pass back then ran in and tucked it away. He's a bit quicker over the first 5 yards than Campbell, and always seems to be in the areas where you want strikers to be. Very good finisher as well. He seems to have the thing where he doesn't have a lot of backlift so always seems to hit the ball early which doesn't give keepers a chance to set themselves for a shot. Just on the goal against Aberdeen, he gave the defender a wee nudge as he was playing the passback which was what created the chance imo. That was a sign to me that he has really good instincts about how to play up front. Just force a defender into a mistake. As you've probably guessed I like Gray a lot. Think he should have been given a bit more of a chance than he's had so far this season, and he was one of the reasons I didn't want us to sign as many strikers as we have this season. Hopefully he'll go to Partick and rattle in a few goals and force his way into the first team set up regularly for us in the latter part of the season.

Appearance wise they look quite similar. Gray is possibly a bit stockier but there really isn't much in it.
