The future`s Bright. The future`s Green and White!

Look at the perspective not only at the recent results. We will have a very good training centre that have not many SPL clubs (every Russian club are dreaming about such a centre). Hopefully, next step will be the building of a brand new East Stand. After that our beloved stadium will be looking even better and crowds could increase. Old Frim games and derby games will attend about 22,000, why not? More supports, more money for the club.

So the only thing we will have to add is the stability on the squad. Stop to sale all our important players who are older then 20 years.

We may be will not reach Top 3 or Top 4 this season, but anyway I see the Hibs future is very bright! The future`s Green and White!

I am sure we can sell more against the OF.

Re: The future`s Bright. The future`s Green and White!

For me it's not really about selling out games/having every seat taken, as much as having a stadium big enough to accommodate demand for the big matches. The recent derby against Hearts was sold out weeks in advance which suggests to me that we should look to increase the capacity.

I'm not so sure - if capacity rises to 22,000 then I have a feeling we might actually see a drop in Season Ticket sales because many will feel there won't be any hassle getting tickets for "big" games (with the obvious exception of whenever we get to cup finals - which actually is usually just a pain rather than a situation of no season ticket = no chance). The result of all this will be that Hibs end up with attendences for many "small" games of around 9 or 10 thousand which in a stadium of 22,000 will look and feel quite shabby. I also think there is little guarantee of OF and Hertz games selling out because even with record ST sales I for one have never had a problem getting tickets for these games, and I haven't lined-up overnight for a ticket since an unpleasant night in 1983 outside the Playhouse when I thought Big Country were gods. I would much rather see Hibs invest in things like the training ground, players and improving the experience for exisiting "customers" whilst maintaining attendences of around 14,000 for every game. Lack of ambition on my behalf perhaps but I think there's quite a history of overspeculation in stadia in football.

Re: The future`s Bright. The future`s Green and White!

We definetly need to expand the stadium in my opinion. No doubt about it. Eventually to 30,000 as i believe we have the potential to fill that. Given time and hard work.

At present talk of a capacity around 22,000 would be perfect. We would near sell out Hearts and OF games but I can also see the point of little atmosphere in a big stadium for the 'wee games'. Why do people not turn up for these games?? If we are playing well, doing well financially and able to hold of advances from along the M8 for our best young talent then fans will turn up.

ER could also be used for Scotland friendlies and U21 games.

The future is definetly Bright, Green and White!!!

Re: The future`s Bright. The future`s Green and White!

in all honesty the cost for a game is holding folk back. £25 per person for 90 mins of football is shocking for the football on display. fair enough paying that price when we had a far higher caliber of players like at the beginning of this decade but i pick and choose games and being honest only the yams/oldfirm and the dons attract me to er as well as cup games. i might be a part time supporter but the SPL is boring predictable and stale and were never going to win it in the near future. only when the old firm leave do i think a massive rise in attendances will happen when we can seriously challenge for a title as well as having summer football. the whole thing needs a major overhall

Some good points. No way is the SPL value for money. Look at some of Werder Bremen's attendances in Germany where football is much cheaper and it's not hard to see where part of the problem lies. Also, here in Spain I can go and watch some of the world's best players for about the same price as seeing Gretna or Hertz at ER. That's crazy. In fact, I saw the likes of Morientes, Silva and Joaquin recently for less than it would've cost to watch the likes of Gary Locke, Robbie Neilsen or Derek Young (I'll resist the temptation to list some of our own "stars"

).

When I was living in Edinburgh a few years ago I was doing the same as you. Picking and choosing maybe about one game a month as that was all I could afford and there was no guarantee of entertainment with Blob W's All-Stars. Back in 89-90 I can recall being able to go to most Hibs home games on my giro. Doubt if there is much likelihood of affording that now. 4 quid it cost at that time. Better not get me started on the price of football actually.

Also, count me in for summer football. The only main problem I see is how to phase it in.

SPL is boring predictable? Nonsence! Hibs beat Celtic, Rangers and Hearts but lost at home to St. Mirren? Where is the predictable?

And the fact that we are never going to win SPL does not mean that you shouldn`t go to support your team. Only gloryhunters from Glasgow doing this!

i was meaning predictable in that no team outside glasgow has won it in over 20 years. and i DO support my team just not every game. people that know me will have no doubt about that and have been to hundreds of games. its just that i pick and choose them due to financial restrictions/work/family.

Re: The future`s Bright. The future`s Green and White!

the main reason for lack of sell outs is that many Hibs fans refuse to sit in the South stand

if the other three stands are sold out, many would rather go to the pub that the South Stand

IF... the new East Stand was developed with access/ turnstiles behind it...

and a road around to the South...

home fans could walk up with their mates to the East... then carry on to get to turnstiles for the South

and it would feel more like a "home" area than the current arrangement of walking around past the school and mixing with away fans

if this segregation issue could be addressed the "occasional" fan would be less likely to be put off as they would still fee part of the home areas

Re: The future`s Bright. The future`s Green and White!

i once got a free ticket from the bank of scotland for the south stand against motherwell a couple of seasons ago. there was only about 200 people in the top tier. never again you just look over to the east stand with a grumpy face wishing you were sitting in there instead of mingling with fans who obviously were not football fans but had aquired free tickets and the atmos is zero.

I know the feeling I had the same experience when we played Dundee in the 1st Division. Got tickets through a neighbour for this stand and well lets just say its not one of my best memories from ER.
