Deek - Not going to happen.

Right, lets put this to bed once and for all. I'd love Riordan back at Easter Road, think he's just what we need right now, e.g, goals. F*ck the past, it's the future that's important. BUT, it's not going to happen. Source - himself.

He just said there were too many obstacles to make a return, or words to that affect. Won't be at Hearts either by the way. Never.

I wouldn't call taking DR back ambition....

If thats your only aim then it's hardly ambitious...

DR can't get a game at the next level up from us - a level where KT and SW regularly feature. DR isn't recognised internationally.

DR is considering going to the gunts (he certainly hasn't killed the paper talk).

Signing DR would be signing DR nothing more nothing less...certainly not ambition as i'd like to see it.

the deek thing or ambition at ER?

the deek thing - I'd like to see him back - players can be changed - TM did it with GO'C

GO'C was more of a bam stick than deek (with less talent) but for what ever reason he buckled down and got his kerrching move.

Ambition at ER...finish the stadium and sign a couple of scottish players (or scottish based) on the way up.

Robson/dodds/wilkie at utd. (the former rather than the latter two)

miller at aberdeen.

black at ICT.

mccormack at well.

jack at falkirk.

sign nish from killie and give them the money.

these players might not be good enough for hibs but they are proven spl players who would bring consistency for our bosman gambles and youngster gambles...

ambition isn't signing stevie gerrard and trying to win the league first time out - the gunts tried that and they're a bottom six outfit now...it the slow progression to a consitently strong side (hopefully with a bit of depth in squad)

Re: Deek - Not going to happen.

Maybe bringing an ex player back to the club isn't particularly ambitious - but if you look at it another way, maybe it is...

Derek Riordan is a squad player at a top European club (which Celtic are now, as much as I hate to admit it, due to their Champions League + UEFA Cup exploits of recent years. Not an elite club, but certainly in the top 20, I would say), and is on a hell of a lot more money at that club than we can afford. Were we to sign a player occupying a similar position in the squad of say Lyon, or PAOK, or Olympiakos, or even Liverpool, then I think that would be regarded as a good, and possibly ambitious signing, and we'd all be saying "I think the guy can do it for us, look at the training he must have had at his old club...he's got talent, he just needs a chance to show it".

The difference with Riordan is that we KNOW he CAN do it at SPL level, and that if given a chance he could also do it on the European level.

I'd also consider Riordan's signing to be ambitious on JC's part as a manager. His disposal of all those who rocked the boat at the end of last season, and reliance upon those loyal to him since then, show me that he just wants a quiet life. He wants harmony in the dressing room, and there's nothing wrong with that. Riordan may not be JC's "type" of person, or personality, but you can be damn sure that he would be JC's type of striker (the 20 goal a season kind!), and I think taking on a player who has been considered by previous managers, like Tony Mowbray, to be a bit of a rough diamond would show that JC is willing to test his managerial skills and his man management skills further. JC says he wants to be a top manager - well top managers work with top players, and top players are known to be difficult to work with, due to their egos, eccentricities, stupidity, "creative genius" and so on. Not accusing Derek Riordan of being any of the above, but I do think that Riordan would be something different from anything JC has worked with before in a managerial capacity.

Basically, Riordan isn't coming back while Uncle Rodney is at the helm.
