Green Sleeves is on the way to a first team debut
The Spine Of The Team

IMO the spine of the team is far too weak and inconsistent with these four in it:

Makalamby - Hogg - Kerr - Antoine-Curier

All of them are "okay", all of them have a decent match from time to time, but all of them have blindingly obvious limitations which will continue to hold Hibs back.

I doubt if any of these players would get a game for any of the other teams in the SPL challenging for the top six. Which suggests they are all squad players at best.

(I cant see the rest of the team's spine ie Jones - Boozy - Fletcher delivering the goods playing alongside those four).

Anyone else agree this is the area JC should sort out/change/strengthen in January?

I never had you down for a Maka basher
I think Hogg has more good days than bad days
I believe Kerr to be a useless pile of p1ss
I think Courier does a not bad job up front although a couple more goals wouldnt go amiss.

Re: The Spine Of The Team

Would agree with some of that,

maka - expect the unexpected

hogg - i like, no problem there imo although he needs proper competition and we will prob need 2 CBs as Jones and Joneleit are looking like departing soon

kerr - is there anyone who thinks he's good enough? DM required please

Curier - started off well, excellent against celtic, gone backwards. However, think he could /should be replaced from within ie benji so don't think a striker is priority although would be welcome if we strengthen elsewhere first

It would be a waste of time for JC to try and build his team around Jones, Boozy and Fletcher. We may have another season or 2 of Fletcher but I reckon Boozy and Jones will be off in the summer. Murphy will be off in the summer aswell. We need some real quality brought in because when boozy and murphy leave so does every bit of class our team has left.

I dont expect us to do much in January but between now and the summer we have to do some serious scouting to try and find another few gems like Boozy and Murphy.

Hopefully the next group of youngsters develop into quality players but I dont expect to see the best of them for another couple of years.

Re: The Spine Of The Team

[sarcasm]Aye, over half of the 7 players we have playing in the centre of the park are not good enough, and that's why we are struggling so badly. When you consider the shite we have out wide as well with even Murphy hitting a dip in form recently, McCann not good enough to ever do anything in the game, Stevenson having a terrible season, Zemamma being inconsistent and so frustrating, O'Brien having barely kicked a ball, and Morais showing something only in flashes I'm no surprised we're toiling...

What do you mean we're third in the league? Absolute fluke, particularly since the manager is completely obviously out of his depth.[/sarcasm]

The question I've got in all seriousness for people is; if you believe the players are shite do you think the manager is getting the most out of them and we're hugely overachieving here, or alternatively are the players fantastic and the manager is not getting the most out of them and we should be doing better? As far as I can see you would have thought people must think one or the other of these things cause you'd have to be a fecking halfwit to hold both those opinions at the same time. Unless of course you believe that we've won loads of games we should have lost (not too many of those that I can mind) and have been very lucky.

Can the squad be improved? Course it can. Has Collins made mistakes? Course he has. But a little bit of fucking patience and perspective is surely needed from some who appear to think we should be rolling over all comers and not breaking sweat doing so...

Broxburn_Hibby will become famous soon enough
Re: The Spine Of The Team

Courier is a decent enough player but as mentioned above he needs to score more goals.More often than not though he is picking up the ball in the midfield area and not in the final third. The reason for this is our piss poor midfield.I also feel that whenever we have the likes of Morais and O'Brien playing and sending in cracking crosses hes not there to get on the end of them because hes either been subbed or hasn't started. So those who think hes piss just bear those points in mind.

As for the others mentioned...

I rate Maka, name me a keeper who goes through every game without making a mistake? The only shocker the man has had was the Aberdeen game in September, we're now in December and any daft goals we've conceded since has been down to the defence.

My only issue with hoggy is when he makes a mistake he trys to blame everyone else bar himself, apart from that i reckon hes one of our more 'consistent' performers.

I'm a defender of Brian Kerr but any more performances like Sunday and i don't think ill be able to.

Not bashing any of them. Wouldnt care if any of the other three left but hope Maka stays. Jury's still out on him and he's got youth on his side.

Re: The Spine Of The Team

Think Maka is the best goalie we've had in a long time, Hogg is fairly reliable and is a certain starter when fit, Kerr is murder - simply not good enough, Courier seems more effective coming off the bench.

Would like to see the spine of the team being Hogg - Boozy - Fletcher/Benji for a few years but I think there's more chance of seeing RP standing outside Easter Road handing out £50 notes!!

Fair enough with the rest, but how can anyone criticize Hogg. Hes been solid this season. Going to turn into a star player for us.
