Can any one explain....

....How Maka can be a 6ft 7" keeper, yet his weakness is any high ball in the box????

being taller doesn mean being good in high balls. being able to catch or box every ball that comes higher needs to be smart of the right moment to jump and catch or box the ball.

if ur thought works then crouch would be liverpool keeper lol

Re: Can any one explain....

Because height is not all that is needed for crosses. Strength is also needed and although looking like an absolute tank maka is very easily pushed down as we seen from his first few games in a hibs shirt. He still need a season under him till we see the true maka. It usually take one full season for players to come out there shell and im sure the same will happen with "A O'B".

Another season and the hibs squad will vastly improve! It takes time...

Why slate the only Hibs player that merited good pass marks yesterday?

Re: Can any one explain....

Maka has all the physical attributes to be a commanding keeper. And yes, you don't have to be big to be able to deal with high balls, but being six ft fecking seven helps!!!!

Hardly slating the guy, by drawing attention to one of his main weaknesses. I just wish Marshall would notice!!!!

Well, if it's not slating him it's certainly not singing his praises is it.

For the avoidance of doubt, anything stated in the above post is written without prejudice; is probably completely uninformed opinion, and possibly just a figment of my imagination. Readers should either ignore, treat with contempt, or simply accept the spirit it is written in, without recourse to huffy replies, legal action or threats of violence.
That includes YOU.

Re: Can any one explain....

Some keepers are afraid of not necessarily high balls but contact with rushing players.

And which keepers are you comparing him to who you think are good at dealing with high balls into the box?

The reason I ask is because I think he is not brilliant at dealing with whipped in crosses, but I'm absolutely toiling to think of many other keepers who are.

And which specific incidents are you referring to?

The reason I ask that is because in the last two games I've seen Ma-Kalambay being slated on here for not getting to two crosses that no keeper in the world gets to...

High balls into the box I personally think he's dealt with okay (with the exception of one of Aberdeens goals at ER). Whipped in crosses he rarely comes for, which is probably a good thing since he would be toiling to get to any of them which are put into the right areas. It's kindae the point of a good delivery to take a keeper out of the equation, and if someone gets a delivery right, they will virtually 100% of the time. At that point the defence has to deal with it, and the keeper should be in a position to try and make a save if the finish isn't spot on. For Dundee Utds two goals last week both crosses were good and he wasn't getting to them so he stayed on his line but was beaten by two very good headers. Aberdeens first on Sunday was different as the player was much closer in so he had to cover his front post, which leaves space to get it to the back post and a tap in for the striker if he wins it.

From what i seen in the first games when he came he never had much bother then but the more marshall coaches him the worse he has been. anyone else notice this? I cant believe marshall still has a job he is obviously not helping any of our keepers get better.

So you think Maka is getting worse instead of better

I'm not sure about that!

When I watched Maka at Stirling pre-season I thought his positional awareness was lacking, I even commented that he'd be lobbed fairly easily before too long (cue Ross McCormack).

I think this side of his game has improved and I think that not coming for 'every' cross as he was at the early stages is something that may have been discussed and practised on the training ground.

Maka is a big imposing figure who does use his size to good effect at times, yes he's made mistakes but don't we all. Whilst I'm not 100% happy I think he is definitely the best we have and the best since Andersson.

Re: Can any one explain....

This summer talked to 2 of Celtics youth coaches who were over in North America doing community soccer clinics and told them Hibs had sighed Maka and both agreed he was not that good and one of them had done some coaching work at Chelsea and seen him first hand. I think he is better than we had but not much better and we should still be looking in that area for impovement come January.

I would take anything that leaves the mouth of anybody representing Celtc Football Club with a pinch of salt!

Let's face it they don't believe probably the best finisher in Scotland deserves a game in their first team!
