Re: fletcher contract

I'll wait to see if it happens but some people made pretty damning statements regarding the boards handling of this...

I'm not a great fan of the board Kenny, but i think they are in a "Damned if we do, damned if we don't" situation here.

If they refused to meet Fletchers pay demands (whatever they may be) then fans will say that they are tight and are pushing Fletch out the door and into the arms of the OF.

if they do meet those demands then people (like me) will only think they are making him the highest paid at ER so the board can inflate the price when he inevitably goes.

Re: fletcher contract

If this is the case im very happy, means we can get the best possible deal for him when he does go which is inevitable anyway. Just means it may be an extra 12 months before he goes.
Fletcher needs 2 seasons scoring 15-25 goals each season before he can get a decnt move.

Tkraz is on the way to a first team debut
Re: fletcher contract

What will be interesting, is that at present his deal runs till 2011. So I would doubt he would sign on for an extended period of time.

What might be possible though is that the deal is shorter, but the wages he would be receiving from say 2009-2011 have been bumped up to increase his weekly wage over a shorter period of time.

Thus he would be more likely to move sooner as he would have more flexibility and would be increasing his wage.

Re: fletcher contract

Not for Fletcher and possibly not for Hibs either.

If you were to assume that Hibs were prepared to sell him within a year to two. And if you were to also assume that Hibs were not prepared to outlay any more cash over the remainder of his current deal. Then to shorten the contract within a reasonable time frame in order to sell him at his peak value, and also give him the extra cash he wants and would have received over 4 years over say, 2 or 3 anyway , would suit both parties.

Slightly cynical but I don't think it's healthy to treat anything the current board does without a slight dose of caution!

It would be great to think we could keep Fletch for another 5 years but realistically he will inevitably be leaving the club but we want to get the market value for him !!

We should be getting well above the market value. After all the board keep reminding us that we don't have to sell anyone.

being totally cynical ! never known a contract to be shortened but saying it was for more money, what is to stop the player then sitting tight getting all the money for himself and the club up shit creek............no way that happenin

I don't see whats so complex about it. Fletcher wants more money, the club doesnt want to give him it.

So instead of paying the same money over a longer period of time, they increase his wages for the time being however on a shorter deal than before which would mean a relative increase on a weekly basis, without the club actually having any more outlay than before.

Re: fletcher contract

Surely not a chance in hell they will shorten the contract....The wage budget is "yearly" and not over the course of a contract.

Regardless of how much money we give him it would mean in any which way that he would be able to bugger off a year earlier ala Deeks and im sure JC & RP would rather he sat on his tuppence and had a year longer to choose(if they do) to punt him to the highest bidder.

Re: fletcher contract

I'd be shocked if the contract was shorter.. Not a chance!

I think the objective of a new contract with better basic and % of transfer fee for player will have two purposes;

For the player; To keep a player doing his job well happy in the short-term.
For the club; To retain control to a limited extent to when we want to cash in on our asset. (Next Summer 08 or Jan 09 ahead of Jan 08)

players aren't the same as staiton - but we'll never know.

I hope it represent a higher top wage at ER - this'll help distance our selves from arabs and the rest of the lower spl in the spending stakes.

Too right, the contract wont be getting made shorter. That would be pointless and we would be better scrapping the contract talk and leaving him on pennies if this was the alternative.
All it would mean would be that we would have to sell Fletch earlier if hs contract was shortened.

And regarding the wage structure being increased to rise put some 'distance' fom ourselfs and the Arabs, i think this woud merely allow us to catch up. We have a structured wage bill that is very rigid where as alot of other clubs seem to be able to offer certain stars top dollar. Aberdeen, Dundee Utd both have players on much better terms than we can offer and id be surprised if Yantorno(Gretna) wasnt on a bumper pay package.
This can disrupt the dressing room unless a player genuinelly deserves the extra wages and is a real star within the team. Something Fletch is. Give the lad a £3.5k contract until 2012with goal and appearance bonuses and we may have a bit of hope of keepinghim until Summer 2009. That would be good business.
