Incredible the effect that 6 games can make.

Incredible stats! When was it we had him? Early in the first division campaign or the following early SPL season? I can't remember... (Although probably a case of not wanting to!)

Early in the first division season: his last game was the 3-3 game at Ayr.

In this case, IMHO, saying the stats don't lie is a bit like saying Tommy Sheridan doesn't lie. In case any defamation lawyers are watching, I'm telling a lie: obviously.

I remember that game well, I had been working abroad for five years and it was my first game after arriving back the previous day. Anderson's performance made me realise just how low Hibs had sunk since I left.

Aye. Its nearly 10 years since the beginning of 'The Great Adventure' and I remember a lot of it vividly.

A couple of uninspiring friendlies against Barnsley (0-1) and West Ham (1-1) were bad a last minute winner at cappielow after an appalling 90 minutes and then the home loss to the mighty Stranraer with idiots like Holsgrove and Anderson in a non trying team. And it got worse......think we hit rock bottom in the September with a 0-2 defeat at Paisley with the nadir being a 0-4 exit from the League Cup at Perth. Recall a visibly shaken Kano playing (and playing well) for the Perth Saints against the team he loves.

That 3-3 draw at Somerset....... I recall Mcleish taking Derek Anderson off at half time almost as an act of mercy - so appalling had he been (he never played for Hibs again). Think Yogi rescued Hibs with a last minute equaliser. At that point I honestly thought we might not make it up. Thankfully attitudes changed, Latapy came in and it was win after win every week.

Re: Derek Anderson

psychocandy will become famous soon enough
Re: Derek Anderson

It certainly was. i remember that game very well. I was stood leaning on the back wall of the cow shed behind the goal begging my dad to leave as we were 3-1 down. Cue 2 goals in 10 minutes or so and a point we probably didnt deserve. Before that game we had been truly woeful, some awful performances not least the shamful game against the saints.

Thank fuck we arent anywhere near that position now. feels like an age ago in every sense.

A Jesus-esque performance of dancing on mud!

He was pretty good that day, and it was about the first actual sign of hope for the next season that I had. Didn't doubt at any point, even with Derek Anderson playing for us, that we were going back up, but up till Latapys debut thought it was going to be an almighty struggle when we were there.

Our relegation to the First Division might well have saved Alex McLeishs career btw. Out of the players he signed that season about 3 of them raised the standards of the rest of the players around them (Sauzee, Mixu, Latapy). The rest of what felt like a cast of thousands we signed were to various degrees rank. We had gelled by the start of the next season, and were full of confidence. If we hadn't got relegated in his first season, the absolute huddies McLeish signed early on would have got us relegated the next, and I'm far from convinced Sauzee would have ended up with us if we were getting relegated rather than promoted for example. Just a thought (and not a very pleasant one...).
