Some Classic Hibs Retro Tops

Just looking at the Toffs Retro Football Shirts web page. They have some classic Hibs shirts from the plain green one from the 20s with the big gold harp right through the 50s and 60s to the Turnbull Tornado shirts. I like the white away top from the 60's with the green collar. They also have the purple one with the white sleeves from the mid 70,s

I think this is one of the best Hibs strips ever-begs the question "why don't we sell it in the club shop"!!

I didnt know that Hibs home top in the 50's had a shamrock badge. I always thought there wasnt any badge on the shirt at that time but there is a team photo with the badge on display.

I think the phrase "badge added for distinction" on some of the tops, tells you it is neither authentic nor accurate.

The purple top with white sleeves was only ever produced by Bukta and looked nothing like the one on sale. An earlier all purple strip had no badge, certainly not the block "HFC" shown.

Aye, the purple top was a kindae waffly effect type material, and it had interlinking bukta badges down the sleeves.

FWIW I've never came close to understanding why the club doesn't stock/produce replica vintage tops as a regular thing to sell. Personally I'm unlikely to ever wear or buy a replica top of what we are wearing just now and haven't for years, but I like the vintage tops loads.

IIRC theres a photo of one of the very early Hibs teams which shows them holding a plaque depicting that badge comprising a shamrock, harp , Irish wolfhound and an obelisk. The obelisk apparently depicts St Patricks burial place in County Armagh.

It wasnt. as far as im aware, used in any official capacity with the clubs original crest being the harp above a row of small interwoven shamrocks.

Dont think there was any badge on our strips till the crown and football one in the late 70s

That particular purple top is from one of the CWC matches from the 73/74 season, I think it was the Besa match but it could have been the home match against Split, the match was on the Turnbulls Tornados video. Which is possibly why the HFC marking is on it, 72 Cup Final top had the same cypher

Is this genuine? I don't remember either seeing this on this website before or ever hearing of it.

Has any bouncer any recollection of this top or even better has anybody actually got one?

Re: Some Classic Hibs Retro Tops

The purple with white sleeves top that toffs sell is not new to me: in the late 70's the Lasswade Primary School strips were identical and I seem to recall that they were "hibs tops". It would not surprise me if it was a top that Hibs sold in the period 74-77 but never actually wore.

Prior to the purple TV effort, when was the last time that Hibs wore an away strip?

I think that's meant to be purple.

I stand to be corrected, but I thought the purple (African Violet) top from the 70's was solid purple, ie no white sleeves.

The HFC logo at the time was in an italic script typeface, not the big block letters on this "replica".
