Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Central Midfield Partnership - Vote Now!

***UPDATED THREAD**** (SORRY!!)

As pointed out by SouthfieldHibby because we appear to have selected players in other positions it may well be that players are perhaps not available elsewhere...

Perhaps when the final team is selected we could tinker (through a vote) various positional choices?

As things stand thus far the Hibernian Hall Of Fame Team is looking like;

Goalkeeper Andy Goram

Right Back John Brownlie

Central Defender Pat Stanton

Central Defender Franck Sauzee

Left Back David Murphy

Right Midfield/Right Wing Gordon Smith

Central Midfielder ??????????????

Central Midfielder ???????????????

Left Midfield/Left Wing John Collins

Forward ???????????????

Forward ???????????????

So its vote for your two Central Midfielders time. Because Pat Stanton is already selected my previous midfield choice of Pat Stanton & Russell Latapy will now be Scott Brown & Russell Latapy.

I've still got both Pat & Franck available as Midfield options though...

Re: Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Central Midfield Partnership - Vote Now!

Tough call----I'd find it very difficult to choose between Latapy, Sauzee,Cropley, Cormack, Edwards and "King Paddy" .
Scott Brown?? Maybe in the future but at the moment he ain't in the same class as ANY of the above in my opinion.

Re: Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Central Midfield Partnership - Vote Now!

I've went for Latapy & Willie Hamilton. Latapy because he's probably my favourite ever player, and Willie Hamilton as a proxy sympathy vote for Big G who I've no seen on here for a while but who adores him and would be devestated to find he hadn't garnered any votes

Other than Latapy I was actually struggling to seperate a lot of the other candidates here tbh. Sauzee & Stanton would have both been possibilities but I voted for them as my central defenders. Collins nearly got a vote but he looks to be going to win as a left midfielder where I voted for Arthur Duncan.

Re: Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Central Midfield Partnership - Vote Now!

I've not seen many of the candidates play, the others...Sauzee is in defence,I dont see either Jack or Kano as hall of fame material,so it leaves Scott Brown to partner the obvious Latapy.

Shame there is no Pat McGinlay (1st time round) option, I used to think he was the dugs baws.

there have been many worthwhile central midfield candidates for inclusion in the Hall of Fame with Latapy first on my list on the basis that Stanton and 'The Sauzee' have already been included elsewhere.

To partner Latapy I'd pick Scott Brown

even though wide right would be a better postion for inclusion rather than central midfield where even Broon couldn't displace the great Gordon Smith. (That's the Hibs legend not the 'Scotland's Shame' apologist who now heads up the SFA

)

Broon is the ultimate players player who got no bigger accolade from his fellow professionals and teamates while at Hibs as being asked to go up and collect the CIS cup with the team captain which I can't remember happening anywhere else before.

Edwards,Cropley and Cormack are all very good players and worthy candidates but they lacked that inner hunger and drive and determination that would make them truly great players on the world stage.

Scott Brown was born to play football

and at 23/24 he is still 4 years short of his peak and is destined for far greater things than playing for Celtc with hopefully some more classic 'Ah Dunno' TV interviews along the way.

Sorry Sam. For the purposes of this debate I have to disagree with that. Cropley strutted his stuff with Arsenal and Cormack at Liverpool. Not wishing to denigrate Brown talents at all but he still has it all to do in that respect - unlike the former two who proved themself with huge clubs at a much higher standard than Brown has so far.

Cropley's injuries crucified him at Arsenal

where he only played about 35 games many as a substitute so I wouldn't agree about 'Sodger' but Cormack your right about and he might have even won an UEFA Cup medal in fact I think he did

but because he didn't go direct to Liverpool from Hibs (he went via Notts Forrest) you tend to forget about him.

The Hibs player who actually achieved more than anyone else after leaving was Des Bremmner who won the European Cup but he is barely even remembered as a Hibs great yet he was at Hibs for 9 years and played well over 250 times.

I take your point totally about Des Bremner, Sam. He has tended to be underrated by some but not here in the Midlands where his important role in that excellent Villa team was showcased regularly.

Cormack I watched at Forest. He was quickly too good for them and snapped up quite rightly by Shanks. I guess one could argue that Cropley had some very good days at Villa too - he was extremely popluar there. The injuries did rend his Arsenal career as inconclusive but I think it says something about him that a huge outfit like that would actually select him as an appropriate player to help run their midfield. That to me is a great honour.

Re: Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Central Midfield Partnership - Vote Now!

'Spoiled for choice' does not do this selection justice. Would not argue with many on that list as worthy of being in all time best team. I've seen all of these, including Bobby Johnstone when he came to serve chances up on a plate for the young Joe Baker, and took my breath away and made my young eyes goggle by hitting the bar with a back heel flick from the edge of the box. Still, I went for Wille Hamilton over him, any body who saw him when he played under Jock Stein will understand why. The man was incredible. Partnered by Pat Stanton as the mid field player who would best fit in beside him and just because no Hibs team should be without the great one.

excuse me but i don't get it - even in the calibre of the last 10 years he's not there.

anonymous in cup finals - nothing in europe - too young for 6-2 - one cap when with hibs (I think)

what has he done to deserve second spot in the current polling

Voted for Latap and big Franck. I would have voted for Eckie Stevenson but he was an inside forward and not a central midfielder so although he is one of my childhood heroes I think he would have been wasted in central midfield.
