Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Centre of Midfield (Partnership) - Discuss & Debate!

Lots of fantastic candidates here. Right at the start my dream midfield partnership was Pat Stanton with Russell Latapy. Wee Scotty Brown nearly edged out Latapy but i just genuinely get butterflies in the tummy at the thought of a Stanton/Latapy partnership....

Other options?

Could probably have Sauzee in there, and I would imagine the Turnbullistas will be screaming for Cropley. Could also have the inside forwards from the FF so Turnbull & Johnstone should probably be options.

I'll be going for Latapy and someone else to be decided fwiw. Best player I've ever seen playing for us. I wouldn't onject to us signing him back now at the age of 135 years of age!

They go on about the fantastic man-management of GJP.

How come then we sacked this guy 6 years ago when he's still pretty much ahead of every other player in the SPL?

John feckin Hughes has man-managed this wee genius in a way GJP never could..

Willief is on the way to a first team debut
Re: Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Centre of Midfield (Partnership) - Discuss & Debate!

Some great players in this position
One's I've seen

JC
Kano
Pat McGinlay - 1st time round was never the same player when we brought him back.
Eddie May - Why did we sell him?
Latapy
Scotty Brown
Murdo

Based on them I would go for JC and Latapy.

Re: Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Centre of Midfield (Partnership) - Discuss & Debate!

I deliberately didn't choose Franck Sauzee in my central defence as I felt he would be of more value in midfield. Partnering "Le Dieu" in my "heavenly engine room" my own Hibernian Hero, Pat Stanton. The thought of two such sublime talents and passionate players on the park at the same time is just too strong to resist.

Looking back over this thread since its start, I now see that stars of such calibre as Cropley, Marinello, Scott Brown, Cormack, Stevenson, Edwards and Schaedler, to name but a few in my football-watching lifetime, have not made it into my own Hall of Fame. Just goes to show you we've had the privilege of watching some cracking players in the Green and White over the years.

Credit to Smurf (cough cough) for this great thread which has brought back some memories.

Would have to include Hammy, Wiss or Kerr for their stunning and largely unseen off the ball skills.

Re: Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Centre of Midfield (Partnership) - Discuss & Debate!

In my mind central midfield has to revolve around the biggest single talent I've seen play for Hibs...Russell Latapy. The question is, who play beside him?Who's the hardest/bestest ball-winner we've had who'd get the ball in the proper manner and give it to Russell?

So it's Russell + AN Other for me.

Re: Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Centre of Midfield (Partnership) - Discuss & Debate!

Think it'll have to be Latapy and Broony for me. Imagine the one-two's, the showboating, Latapy getting barged off the ball so Scotty clattering the opponent, what a pairing.

Matty Jack is also a bit of a cult hero for me. Would love to see him on the bench for this dream team!

I would go for Stanton and Latapy.

Stanton because my dad always raves about him and is his favourite ever player.

Latapy because he is probably the best player I have seen in the flesh playing for Hibs.

Re: Hibernian Hall Of Fame - Centre of Midfield (Partnership) - Discuss & Debate!

got to be Stanton and Russell as I voted for Sauzee at the back.

pretty tough restricting this to 11, might have gone for a 3- 5 - 2 formation with hindsight with Smith, Brown, Stanton, Latapy and Collins across the middle, a mouthwatering prospect

Latas and Pat for me I think.

Latapy is one of the most skilful players I've seen at ER whilst Pat in his heyday was class personified.

Broonaldo is pretty close.

For the avoidance of doubt, anything stated in the above post is written without prejudice; is probably completely uninformed opinion, and possibly just a figment of my imagination. the last goal alone should include russell latapy(did anyone ever work out if it was 2 s 1l or 2 of each or what) and sauzee was the best player iv ever seen. its hard to leave psycho out, and for a season chico was immense! but on these 2 guys, not a patch.

for what its worth, brown shouldnt even get near a central berth in this midfield

The problem with stanton & sauzee troops is that they are leading the way in the centre backs poll, so would be unavailable for midfield?
