best strike force since early 80's

Who in your opinion has been the best strike force from 1980 onwards?? mine would be Gordon durie and Steve Cowan..does any one share that? also I had an argument with my pal..I said when Durie moved to chelsea, we played them in a friendly.. I know we won 4-1 but he's adamant it was 2-1, can anyone confirm this..

Re: best strike force since early 80's

We did beat Chelsea 4-1 at ER in 1986. (I mind a very funny incident with Alan Rough and David Speedie!) We drew 2-2 with them in 1991 IIRC.

Best partnership without doubt was Durie and Cowan. If that team had a midfield or defence..

That is the only really good partnership I have seen in my life.

Zitelli and Mixu weren't bad either though....

Thats for sure mate, they were the dugs he-haws so they were. Best strikers I've seen at ER .

Since the 80's ??

Mixu, Keith Wright, Gordon Durie, Stevie Cowan, Steve Archibald were all natural finishers.
Darren Jackson had the neat wee touches. Deeks was top drawer.
I dont think we saw the best of Gary O'connor or Steve Archibald

If I have to pick two - Mixu & Durie. what a pairing they would have made .

Quite enjoyed watching Keith Wright & Darren Jackson, but they dont come close to the effectiveness of Deeks & Garry

thought Paul Wright wasn't that bad tbh, came back to haunt us enough times.

got half maimed by neil berry in a derby and was out injured for ages iirc.

Yip. Was good with us until getting put out for months with one of the worst tackles I've seen in person.

Paul Wright was pretty useless for us i thought. 6 goals in total IIRC?

Still, i agree he proved elsewhere (particularly against us as you say) that he had abilities.

Still remember his goal for Killie that knocked us out the Scottish Cup at ER..

6 goals in not an awful lot of games though. And that was prolific in an Alex Miller side!

I think Paul Wright was our top scorer in season 1990/91 with a whopping 6 goals!

Actually, that was surely our bleakest ever season. Even when we got relegated under Duffy there were at least a few highlights.

Re: best strike force since early 80's

You can soccerbase for Riordan & O' Connor but back in 72/73

Alan Gordon played 52 games scoring 40 goals
Jimmy O' Rourke played 47 games scoring 34 goals

74 goals between them - and that's just the league, league cup, Scottish Cup, UEFA Cup and the Dryburgh Cup.

Edit:

And Arthur Duncan chipped in with 22 goals from the wing. Seems like silly numbers now.
