Murphy hints at Hibs exit.

Hibs left back David Murphy, undoubtedly the best in Scotland has raised concerns amongst Hibees everywhere as he suggested he may be looking to move.

Despite being settled in Edinburgh Murphy told setantasports.com "You come to a time in your career as a player that you feel you need to move on to further your career and I am no different.

"I want to play at the highest level I possibly can.

The 23 year old has been at the club since 2004 after starring in a pre-season friendly against Cardiff City as a trialist after his release from boyhood idols Middlesborough.

Hibs boss Tony Mowbray was sufficiently impressed enough to offer him a 3 year deal which was extended until 2009 after further impressive displays.

"It was a massive decision for me," said Murphy. "The club that I chose had to be the right club and I think I chose the correct club with Hibs.

"I have had three-and-a-half great years at Hibs, it has been a great learning curve and I have played regularly.

"But there is a time in a person`s career when there comes a time to move on."

I think we all know Murph won't be along for much longer. He is a classed act. We got 2 million for Whittaker so by that standard we should get at least 3 million for the best left back in Scotland.

Watching Davie's interview, it did seem ominous. He had complimentary things to say about Mogga, so I would expect £3.5 million bid from WBA in January.

Can't see JC selling Murphy in January. No worries there. Hibs don't need the money and the club saw with Scott Brown how a players value can go up by the end of the season.

But its a dead cert Murphy will leave at the end of the season. He'll have been here for four great years and thats about as much as Hibs can expect from a top class player like Murphy... on STF-Petrie wages.

£3.5million would be about right.

Especially as Mogga came in for him in the summer and offered substantially less..

Back in July..

TONY Mowbray has confessed he tried to lure full-back David Murphy away from Hibs this summer but was deterred by his former club's "ridiculously high" asking price.

What I can tell you is I had one discussion about Murphy, maybe six weeks ago. I was quoted a ridiculously high price for a player who cost nothing a few years ago. It finished there really."

Let's hope he is here to the end of the season and then he can go with our best wishes. Great player, fantastic servant. He has done the Hibees proud.

He has one medal from his time at Hibs, it would be great if he could pick up another before he left.

I wouldn't exactly call this 'a hint'

It's a great big huge gigantic signpost illuminated by floodlights with the words 'So long and thanks for all the Fish' in red bold capitals surrounded by flashing neon lights.

Lets hope such an honest and ambitious player gets to move on with a bit of dignity and the supporters best wishes more akin to the Whittaker transfer rather than the shambles of 'The Twins', Murray or Riordan.

I heard Mowbray was prepared to go to 750k for Murphy, but would have paid 5.5M for the "twins"

Doesn't it show us though how much the game has changed in recent years when we talk about a player being at a club for three and a half seasons as a 'great servant'. I still think about people such as Arthur Duncan when I hear terms like that.

Re: Murphy hints at Hibs exit.

Its inevitable that Murph will leave sooner than later. He is too consistently good not to attract attention from elsewhere. We have had a good innings from him and put him in the shop window when he was going nowhere in the Boro reserves. When the dark day comes lets hope he goes south and not west.

If Murphy had a bit of pace he'd be the England left back.

Anyone got any figures of what other left backs have gone for?

FWIW i reckon he'll be away in Jan.

Re: Murphy hints at Hibs exit.

It will be a sad day indeed when David Murphy leaves Hibs as he has been an excellent player for us for nearly four years. In the Bosman era that is as long as you are ever likely to get out of a decent player at the wage levels Hibs pay. I hope when he does go that Hibs get a good fee for him, and that he finds a good club in England to play for. I also hope he sticks around till the end of the season.

Not only is Murph the best left back in Scotland, he has one of the finest first touches I have seen on a player in all my time watching football. I expect him to leave at the end of the season, I hope hibs would be looking for around 3 million for him?
