Hibs Wage Structure
We have to look at why we are loosing so many players.
I do not mean players like Scott Brown who needed to move on because they had hit a point in their career where they probably should be at a bigger club. I am talking about players like Jones and Killen who are playing at a good club where they can play every week but still want to leave. It all comes down to Hibs and wages. Why are we not paying a bit more to keep our players? Why can we not compete with Aberdeen and Hearts whose average gate is not much (if any) greater than ours? If I was to believe everything I read on this forum it sounds like Hibs players are being paid peanuts compared to our two closest rivals. We hear alot about the training centre, however a great facility is not going to keep an experience player with 4-6 years left in the game at your club. The fact that Jones (who I do not rate BTW) would choose to go to club in deep sh*t like Leeds is a bit worrying. We do not want another 'hands off hibs' situation, I am not suggesting reckless spending. However we need to do more to keep decent senior professionals at the club.

Re: Hibs Wage Structure
of all thats been going on recently, this is the one factor thats factually responsible. That is to say, it is not idle speculation. Say what you want about the intensions of managers, or the greedy nature of players and agents, but if our wage structure isn't competative- our team can not ultimately be competative. Its the same for any business. Historically there have been problems with growing wages, but now that our dept is more than squared a moderate adjustment may seem sensible in the future. Currently I don't think there are any players at hibs left who require a terribly high wage.
That being said- I think hibs are capable of paying jones quite a bit more and staying within the current slim wage structure, and if he leaves in these last weeks it will be specifically because either the manager or the board doesn't think he is worth that money.

Re: Hibs Wage Structure
"Wages, however, shouldn't be a problem. Hibernian's ground capacity is just 17,500 and a club salary cap tops out at £1750 per week."
From leeds united on jones. How they know what our wage structure is, is beyond me but it really isn't huge is it? (we're all agreed players are overpaid, but on the scale of things) Dundee Utd are paying £3000+ for Robson Hearts had Gordon on £10000 per week Aberdeen will surely be paying mcnamara a decent wage. Why can't we? |

Re: Hibs Wage Structure
i really don't think aberdeen pay much more than us. hertz have been paying a lot more but have since off-loaded most of their top earners. Jones was offered more money and knocked it back. Feck him.

Re: Hibs Wage Structure
What you have got to remember is that we are losing players to bigger clubs than Hibs. No matter what Hibs pay the staff we have lost they will always get more else where. We cant compete with the likes of the OF or Leeds but i would like to see the wage ceiling rise so JC can try and bring in players with a bit of experience and get a good 2 or 3 seasons out them instead of kids and journeymen who if they do happen to be half decent jump at the first opportunity to get away.

The Sheep lost more than £2.5m last year. What's the point in offereing more, when as you have already pointed out with Hearts handing Gordon £15,000 and Dundee Utd giving Robson £3,000. Also with McNamara at Aberdeen when it hasn't made them better than us. What hae they won???? None of the above clubs have done better than us since we started the cost cutting. No matter what we up our wage structure too, we couldn't match the OF so i don't see the point in handing out silly money. Although i do think our wage structure should be a bit higher, maybe £3,000, it doesn't always bring glory. Quote:

Re: Hibs Wage Structure
But we're not losing players to the likes of Aberdeen or Hearts. The OF can pay a lot more than we can, just to sit on the bench and in the main, we are losing players to them.

Re: Hibs Wage Structure
If we start paying our "star players" £3k a week, how long before the lesser players have their agents knocking on the door looking for more money? It's an easy road to go down and you end up paying out more than you bring in. Why lose £2-3 million every year when the best you can hope for is the occasional 3rd place and a few quid from UEFA games? No thanks, I'll take what Hibs have to offer.
On another point, Jones' agent reckons we should pay him more because we value him at £1million. Will agents now be telling us that they will play for nothing for 6 months when they've signed a pre-contract with one of the Old Firm and they have no value to Hibs? Somehow I can't see it happening. |

Leeds have average crowds of 28,000 and generate £31 million a year in income. Leeds once in 2001 generated annual income of £86 million which is more than Hibs generated in 20 years put together Hibs though, are actually despite all our criticism are a very well run club and Leeds have been run by a succession of complete charlatans, imposters and incompetent wannabbees

Re: Hibs Wage Structure
Leeds are actually one of Europes biggest clubs, remember what they were like just a few seasons ago? They have just been catastrophically managed, in a poker analogy Peter Ridsdale went "All in" with a pair of Jacks! With other guys holding Kings.... They can easily fill Elland Road with a moderately succesful side , and have a history that is second to none.
However, this is digressing from our wage structure. What we need to ask ourself is why people want to leave Hibs? We are part of a city that is by far Britains most attractive , and up there with Barca, Paris, Stockholm etc , as Europes Best? We play a style of football that is the most dynamic in the SPL and we have a exceptionally (In his playing days) well respected manager, who has the same ideas about the game as Arsene Wenger. It all comes down to the fact that a players career is over by 35, and he must make as much money as possible in that short time. My feelings in this matter for our club is this . 1. A wage cap of 3000 GBP per week. 2. A bonus scheme that will pay our players the equivalent of 12000 GBP per week based on results , this would obviously include winning the league and going into the Champions league. I have no problem at all with HFC posting a profit and loss at the end of each season of 0 GBP. We are not here to make money, and if all the money goes to the players that generate the success , so be it....
