20 Goals For Benji?

Now that the hype of benji's pre season goal fest against shitey scottish and pishy english opposition has died down.I personally think that he will be lucky to get into the low teens.I have no doubts about his ability as a player,but i cannot see him being the answer up front,i think he sees himself as the only one who should be allowed to score for us,and tries to much at times when a simple pass or lay of is the better option.

Irrelevant. We're Hibs. We've had our penalty for this season. If I'm wrong though I'd stick with Benji. He just had a bad one against the english pub team.

20 goals? I'd say that's the minimum. I'm really expecting the boy to explode this season. If he ups his work-rate he can go places. I really think he's the best finisher in the SPL and once he settles down for the season he'll prove it. I reckon JC's playing him sparingly because the transfer window's still open and doesn't want to lose him.

I agree with that A. And with what Camthebam said, I think Benji will get his 20+ goals this season. He could do with being a bit less selfish on some occasions but hes a striker, shooting for goal is his job so what do you do? Tell him not to?

He'll definitely get 20+, he's a confidence player, and once he's got it, he can rip any defense apart.

To be fair he hasn't the fairest chances lately with the system JC is using.

Agree he needs to keep the head up though and pick out more passes when in possession but I'll forgive him a few cracks. That goal against Bolton a good case in point. Belter.

What more can he do other than try to score no matter what 'shitey' opposition we play pre-season what do you want pre-season friendlies against the infirm or the Yams?? He scored 1 from 4 against English Premier Teams so can't see why there is hype surrounding him.

What is fact is that Benji pre-season was looking leaner, fitter and sharper than anyone had seen before, the start to his season has consisted of 45 mins against the Yams in which he was unlucky not to score 2, full 90 against The Sons of Yams where he played 45 mins as a lone target man and okay 33 mins against Utd at Tannadice - wasn't there on Sat so cant comment on his performance but seems he had a few chances.

Dont forget Benji is only 22 and has scored 15 goals in 28 appearances for us so far, my opinion (and you have yours) is that if he can keep injury free and doesn't get whisked away along the M8 then Benji will not be a kick in the arse away from 20+ this season and next season etc etc.

Hope this has opened your mind to a perhaps more positive spin on Benji

Oh and by the way - according to the Fishal Web Page Benji has only started 2 competitive games out of that 28 - can that be right if so i am stunned!!dunno:

As you suggest, the formation we are playing at times will not help his style of play one bit,also only playing less than the full 90 will lessen the chances.Both these factors aligned with the fact he's a greedy wee shite lead me back to my original forecast

Most 20+ goals a sason strikers are as you describe - what about the fact that he has only started 2 games for us - still dont believe that - 1 was the CIS final the other must have been Gretna last weekend - shirley a mistake ??

the 28 is number of starts, the (26) is number of appearances from the bench. If you look at O'Brien it's 2 (1), which is right because he started against Gretna & Dundee Utd and came on against Hearts.

Zab your 21 year old brain is obviously a lot sharper than mine - , when you hit 40 then you too will have semi-senior moments like I did yesterday.

Benji is a great players but he's far too inconsistent to score 20+ this season. Compare his performance against the Yams to his performance against Utd only 2 weeks later!

Hope he proves me wrong though

Murphy for me, Calmess and probably the most un-fazed professional on our books. Not to mention he has a sweet left foot.
