Whittaker imo is good at making forward runs and is a good player but McCann looks the part aswell as Gattheusi so im not bothered! Tbh id rather have the 2m

I'm the other way round, I think Thomson will turn out to be a really good player, not sure about Whittaker, decent at going forward but very average at defending

Agree Mark. We have lost two good players, not two superstars, and The Huns have paid IMHO more than they were worth at present. Hopefully, this sends out the message that ER is no longer a bargain basement. Besides, plenty more where they came from.

Both them are considerably better than average imo. Thomson is a good player but has to be playing in a side which suits him. IMO he's a better player than Ferguson but he'll never get the chance to prove that with the huns. Whittaker is a good player who is limited defensively, although I do think he has improved in that area over the last year.

Saying that, I do think that £2m for each of them is a very decent return.

I agree wee 162. However we have got to the stage with the club's finances being on a sound footing that JC has to be given funds to take the club forward. OK, we have good cover in Whittaker's position but we can strengthen elsewhere.

This should be seen as a windfall. Let's use it.

I think some of the transfer money is being used---in the signing on fees. There's no way we could persuade the likes of O'Brien & MaKalamby to leave teams like Newcastle & Chelsea[even if it is for 1st team football] for the wages Hibs pay unless there was a sweetener of some sort.

I think Whits defensive frailties would have been hard to accommodate in a side that looks like using the flanks a lot more. Say for arguments sake we has O'Brien on the left and Morais or Zemama on the right, I'd be very uncomfortable with a full back who struggles to defend. Looks to be that JC wants a more solid, although less marauding, back 4 with the midfield being more attack minded. Christ I must be bored at work.

Spot on as usual Ian. I'm starting to get really edgy with the lack of "real" quality players coming into ER having lost some of the best young players in Scotland

I find it hard to get myself down about getting £4m for the pair (Whittaker and Thomson).

Shame too see Whittaker go but every player has his price and in my opinion, Rankgers matched it (even payed more).

I think the thing is Laird that we are not that far away from having a team that could really challenge. A situation you and I have witnessed over and over again.

There is talent at Easter Road and yes they will entertain us. Let's make sure we can go that little bit further and really believe we can challenge Rantic. The truth is they are not that good (Broonaldo and one or two others aside) and are there for the taking.
