Kevin Thomson is keen for former Hibernian team-mate Steven Whittaker to follow him to Rangers.

Whittaker has been linked with a move away from Hibs this summer and Rangers boss Walter Smith is believed to be keen on the former Scotland Under 21 defender.

Thomson, who moved to Ibrox in the January transfer window, hopes Smith steps up his interest over the next few weeks.

"He is one of my close friends. I would love to see him here but it's not my decision," Thomson told Rangers News.

"You want to see as many good players coming here as possible and he certainly comes into that category."

Thomson believes Whittaker would be able to break into the Rangers side, adding: "Big clubs are looking at him now and hopefully he will get his break.

"I'm sure if he did come then he could fit in somewhere in the team."

When I saw the players together once sitting relaxing it was Thommo, Whitty, Simon Brown, J Mccluskey in one wee group, Boozy by himself and the youngsters Lewis, Mccann ,Campbell and Lynch on other side of room playing their gameboys.
(Jonesy was just arriving there were no Morroccans or Scotty around).
Flimsy evidence mibby but
Ive been wondering ever since how much longer we'd have Whitty.

And really I wouldnt mind if he went for good money.
I worry about his defending and he tries to beat one too many men EVERY time.
If not his final ball is gash.
