Arise Sir Rodney:This is your finest ever moment as Chairman

Sir Rodney has just pulled off the greatest ever transfer fee between two Scottish clubs of £4.4m which easily beats the £3.75m 'Scotland's Shame' paid Dundee Utd for Duncan Ferguson.

He achieved this by very cleverly getting first TweedleDumber and then Brown to sign extended contracts at the time when they were the most vulnerable which was when they were getting paid buttons and both had just had serious injuries.

His carrot was to pay them 10% of any future transfer fee on top of a rather measly £2,000 a week basic.

This meant they were unwilling to do 'A Riordan or 'A Murray' and run down there contract and Hibs end up with nought.

as it was in their own best interests to sign up and then take a cut of the transfer deal.

By selling TweedleDumber and stalling on Brown, Hibs have raked in £6.5m with a little help from the equally brilliant salesman 'Wullie' who has helped pump up the price with his comical leaks, publicity stunts and downright lies.

Hibs can't and won't and will never be able to keep such talent as they can never be big enough and any Hibs fan who thinks they could or should really needs a serious reality check.

This might come as a surprise to some folk but TweedleDumber, Brown, Whittaker , Murphy, Miller ,Riordan,Murray,O'Conner only want to play for Hibs for a few years and then they inevitably want to move on to bigger clubs and there are numerous bigger clubs than Hibs out there.

These players and especially Brown are always going to leave, it was only a question of when and where and Saint Rodney has extracted the maximum possible pay off.

There are still many reasons for a sack Saint Rodney campaign.
(1)Not backing JC in the January transfer window

Selling Broon isn't one of them though: KT and SB always wanted to leave this season and Sir Rodneys performance in the whole TweedleDumb and TweedleDumber transfer sagas has been nothing short of sensational and is easily his finest ever moment as Hibs chairman and chief executive

Hold the knighthood(!) but yes I doff my cap to the man for this one. A quite staggering amount of cash, albeit for a splendid player. Will this kind of amount ever be seen again by Hibs?

Finally we get rewarded appropriately for all the good work done by our coaching and scouting staff

Re: Arise Sir Rodney:This is your finest ever moment as Chairman

I have to say that I have never believed the myth that we have no money for players.
I assumed that the myth grew on the basis that we are not a buying club ie Hibs will not be competing at the £500,000+ market. However, I am convinced that JC will be able to break our ludicrously low wage ceiling of two grand. Cash will be available to offer better wages and bigger signing-on fees.
For a club of our size (based on annual income) this is the only way to improve. Anyone who believes that we can live beyond our means on a regular basis should look to the West of the City (debt of four times their income and the only means of staving off bankruptcy is hoping their chairperson continues to refuse treatment for his mental health issues).

best post yet regarding browns sale...except for point number 3...if hibs were to let it be known that j.c had a warchest of say,£2m,then every club that we approached in our quest for new players would immediately put their price up...its in hibs best interests to let the rest of the football world think that we have little or no money to spend on players and in that way we will pay a fairer price for whoever j.c chooses to bring to the club....we should leave paying over the market price to the gullible old firm, they are after all,the masters of this practise.

a secret is flawed no?

Even though we do seem to be perusing the bargain basement the players and clubs concerned will still have agents who, unless they are criminally negligent, will know we have received £xM in readies in the last 18 months.

Petrie needs to categorically announce we will be buying to appease many of the fans IMO. I expect we will be thrown bone or two and that'll keep most people quiet for another year.

Positives:
- instead of losing players for nothing, we are getting monumental amounts for them
- the money is going to some good use somewhere, benefiting the club in the end
Negatives:
- we are constantly selling our players to our major competitors in Scottish football
- the youth scheme cannot produce Murrays, Caldwells, O'Connors, Riordans, Thomsons, Browns, Fletchers and Stevensons annually for years and years on end

Re: Arise Sir Rodney:This is your finest ever moment as Chairman

Congrats to "Sir Rodney" are premature, and misguided.

Petrie didnt rush into selling players, true, he merely waited a few months to get a better price on the likes of Broon. Which has worked out fine. But he only did this because there was no financial pressure to sell. Thats why it happened. Not cos Petrie is some kind of iron man of transfer negotiations.

If Petrie invests some of the massive wealth Hibs have accumulated from the transfers of Garry O, Thomshun and Broony into two or three more quality players (good enough to walk straight into the first team no argument); and ups the wage structure to try and hold onto the likes of Stevenson, Fletcher, Murphy and Whittaker, then he deserves our applause.

If he doesnt spend serious cash on the first team this summer, then Hibs will never get past the level we're at now, and remain a feeder club providing others with a steady conveyor belt of quality young players. Hardly a future that inspires anyone.

If Petrie spends the lions share of the dough on a new East Stand (not wanted and not needed) and/or paying back what is already a manageable debt then instead of a knighthood he should get a P45 and sling his hook.

The jury is still oot.

Jeez, nip away to Mallorca for a week and they sell Scott Brown. I agree with pretty much all of Sam´s post, however the only element that dissapoints me is the sale to Celtic.

I cannot wish Scott well during his time at with them, although I do sincerely hope his Scotland career flourishes as he is genuinely a good and potentially a great player. I also hope we have inserted a healthy sell on clause as I do believe the Dodgers to be a stepping stone to a career with a ´proper´big team.

As he lives across the road from me, Ill introduce him to all the local huns!!!

TV last night suggested the fee was 4.5m now with a further 1m to Hibs after appearances and other 'extras'.

Everything in Sams post is well understood by the vast majority I would think.

The problem is not the sale itself but what is happening with the dosh.

Mr Petire knew at the beginning of the season and certainly as soon as 'Willie' arrived on the scene that both players were leaving by the end of the season just as he knows Whittaker and Murphy will leave sometime next season.

The quite criminal negligence is never the selling of young players as that will always happen at Hibs.

It is the complete failure to anticipate this in advance and be proactive in the transfer market such as last January or even last July when a goalkeeper/holding midfielder and striker would have made such a difference to the calamitous end of season results.

Mowbray leaving and JC being very inexperienced didn't help the cause but when the new manager comes out with frequent and blatant lies like 'no money for players' and Hibs are getting linked with players of the poor standard of McManus,Smith and Suwomni then you have to conclude that Hibs business policy is based upon hope and luck rather than shrewd ambition and sound judgement.

Thats is it for me. When you KNOW several millions are guaranteed and still do nothing to address the obvious weaknesses in the playing pool then what are you offering our club Mr P ?

There is no question in my mind that sensible investment in January would have had us looking forward to the UEFA Cup next season.
