Grof anyone?

I wasn't able to watch the game today as I was working but it seems McNeil had a bad game and does anyone else think it might be time to give Grof a shot? Giving him a chance in goals against Celtic would do no harm.

I would play him, we have nothing to lose so why not?

Can't be any worse than anyone else. Seen him for the U19's vs. Hearts looked a good shotstopper and he caught most balls into the box, and for once he is tall!

However, I don't know how he would cope with the SPL.

because the hibs fans don't give keepers a chance.

andy was thrown in because of blunders from our two experienced keepers at a very young age and you wonder why he made mistakes??

As i recall he made one huge blunder , no real chance with the first goal .
He knows he fucked up and looked really pissed off , more so than some others who made a Gareth Hunt of things

Re: Grof anyone?

Keep McNeil in for the Celtic game. Getting dropped like that will destroy him, and, though he's made mistakes recently, he's still the best keeper we have at the club. I hope he plays against Celtic.

What better time to try him out?

How about in a pre season game like every other young player in the world makes their debut? Do you think it would be a good idea to place him in an environment where everyone has him under the microscope, and is simply waiting to label him as "the next shite Hibs keeper", or would it be a better idea to ease him into the side in as pressure-free a way as possible?

I think the problems McNeil is having can be linked to the simple expectation that he'll fuck up because he's the Hibs keeper, and that's just what they do. If Grof plays against Celtic, and makes a mistake, and gets the inevitable pelters, we'll have ruined two promising young goalkeepers in one move. That may "be football" in your opinion, but personally I'd rather keep two international calibre goalkeepers at the club, and as confident as possible.

Re: Grof anyone?

McNeil has been damaged by his spell in goals, and he is a young man. Can you imagine what would happen to a boy? Grof has played 3 adult-level games in his career - all reserve games, 1 of those as a substitute. Play McNeil, or Simon Brown, get the game over with (hopefully without a blunder) and sign a new keeper. If Ally Brown is available (since SFL season finished, he was on loan at Ayr) then put him in - it's a couple of years since he made a first team appearance, he deserves another chance, in the same way we'll give McNeil one in a few years time hopefully.

Mcneil is a young laddie playing in a tough position in difficult circumstances.

IMO he's given us more positive performances than negative and he deserves to retain his place next week.

I don't think i'd want it after this season.

Re: Grof anyone?

McNeils blunder for the second goal was a shocker. No doubt about that, however, he made some cracking saves during the game and without those the scoreline could have been much worse. First goal wasnt his fault. A defensive blunder left him exposed and we got punished. He was mightily p1ssed with the mistake he made but all in all he isnt a bad goalie. Putting Grof in against the smellies and he maybe loses 2 or 3 goals isnt going to help. Stick with Andy fo rthe last game of the season.

Id rather buy a keeper with more experience and bring him to the club in the summer.
So would I, but we don't have the cash, so we have to do the best with what we do have, and try and maximise their abilities, not wreck their confidence.
