Hmmm, a decent football coach with decent prospects. Should he accept one of the two poison chalice jobs in Scotland (the other being the Arabs of course)........

Any management job in Scottish or English football is a poison chalice nowadays. The tops clubs expect to win everything and their supporters expect to sign the best players in the world. The other clubs have to manage on a tight budget, selling their best players, often for less than they're worth, then expecting the manager to replace them at little or no cost. But I've yet to hear of any of these jobs being re-advertised due to lack of interest.
