Clayton Donaldson on Sky tonight

It's the second leg of the Conference play-off semi-final and the game against Morecambe is on Sky at 5pm.

The winners play Oxford or Exeter on May 20.

Very brave winning that penalty, ouch. I bet that fukn hurt.

Update just as I posted, dodgy York Goalie lets in a soft equaliser, caught in no-mans land for a looping header.

Re: Clayton Donaldson on Sky tonight

Looked strong and pacey. Kept things simple but will need to work on his first touch and link up play from first glance, raw potential though.
York couldnae supply jack shit all game to Donaldson, Woolford and Farrell all game. Hence why they are oot.

Ok 75 minutes from our new signing. Commentators kept mentioning if anything was going to come from York it was going to be from Donaldson or ex-St.Johnstone player Panther, who had a game good game today for them.

Will give Fletcher and Benji a good run for their money when he comes in June.

Greenmachine will become famous soon enough
Re: Clayton Donaldson on Sky tonight

He was taller than I thought he would be, and he can certainly shift. However, he looked as though he didn't want to go in for any more rough stuff after the keeper clattered him early on. The standard was terrible in this game I have to say. CD looked like he has his mind on his next club, as does every player who signs a pre-contract half way through the season.

Can't understand for the life of me why managers continue to play players who taken advantage of this ridiculous pre-contract rule. They are not interested anymore, and will never give there all. They have signed for another club and are committed to that club. I wouldn't give a player house room if he had effectively signed for another club half way through a season.

He is not the answer I'm afraid, we need a striker who will guarentee us atleast 15 goals a season and is in the mould of Killen, From what I saw this kid will struggle in the SPL

dont forget Killen came from Oldham, who were playing at that time in the 1st/2nd

Conference is not the best admittedly, but lets face it probably on a par with lower Scottish First.. the league where a lot of clubs are creaming themselves over Jason Scotland...

with better players around him it will hopefully come good for CD

I agree mate, he did get a sore one with there keeper which would knock the stuffing out of most players, but at least he didnt bottle it and was fast enough to actually put in a challenge..........

Donaldson main problem is going to be expectation

He has been portrayed as an up and coming young striker who has been banging in the goals for York and as always some fans believe what they want to believe and many will swallow this lock stock and barrell which will put unfair pressure on the player.

The reality is that he is aged 23 to 24 and was bombed out of Hull City when they were in the 4th English division, loaned to Harrogate Town, then loaned to Scarborough and then loaned to Halifax before ending up at York in the 5th English division.

This doesn't make him a bad player but it does mean he needs time and lots of it to adapt to the SPL and young players at Hibs don't get time as they get played out of necessity as Hibs choose to have a tiny squad.

Mcneil needed more time, didn't get it

It's going to a big ask of Donaldson to play the strikers position straight from 2 years in the Conference and playing against errrrrrrrrrrr Morecambe

Hence he will need time, patience and perseverance from the Hibs supporters so that's all that sorted then.

Agree with all of that.

However, I don't think Donaldson will be a starter next season for some time. I do think Collins will ease him in gradually as the season goes on. As you say the step up from the Vauxhall Conference to the SPL is a huge one, and he cannot be expected to immediately hit the ground running when he arrives at ER in the summer. He will need time to settle into the SPL. It's on a par with Hibs signing a promising striker from the top of the Scottish Second Division and expecting him to be an instant hit. That's the sort of level he is coming from.

Collins clearly sees a lot of potential in this lad, and I just hope the fans give him as much encouragement and backing as they can when he does play for us next season.

FWIW it's absolutely essential we get in a physical striker who can play with his back to goal.
