According to the Scotsman today.

He is not going to be offered a contract.

Apparently because Collins told him he was one of the players who met with Petrie, and also that Whittaker and McCann were before him for the right back position. Shields is saying that he thinks it is unfair of JC to use the meeting with Petrie as an excuse to punt him as there were "plenty of others who were at the meeting"

I'd be disappointed if the reasons given are the 'real' reasons! He's been out on loan since January so can't have done much training with JC so I can't understand his role in the attempted coup. Whittaker may well be on his way, leaving McCann and

Jay is very much a 'junior player' and if he thought it was wise to go and moan about getting put out on loan then he has found out the hard way that it certainly isn't a smart move to jump on bandwagons.

I enjoyed watching him getting stuck in, but felt his physique was always likely to hold him back a bit.
However, the West Lothian Jungle Drums have Blobby in pole position for the Livi job so maybe there is a place for him there.
After all, Blobby tells everyone that the current crop of young talent at ER was all down to his efforts.

No great loss for Hibs IMO. Had a belting derby last season tho'.
Total rubbish it had anything to do with with the meeting behind collins back - he's not made the grade - but still think the lad could do a job in the 1st division.

Wisnae afraid to get stuck in but IMO just not good enough. Already been overtaken for a starting place by McCann (two years his junior) who IMO is a better player.

But honestly if Flynn wants them promoted, and they're going to have a tough time of it to surpass St Johnstone, he requires someone with a bit of tactical nous.

From what I was reading, it would appear that Shields gripe was more to do with the way his loan deal to Dundee had been handled by Collins.

At the end of the day I just don't think he has been able to accept the fact that he was just not good enough to hold down a starting place in the Hibs first team.

I think at the end of the day Jay is not going to get many opportunities for first team football at ER and will be better moving on. Allegedy he seemed to be liked at Dens so could see his future lying there.
