Re: Yams v Barca at Murrayfield

First the dig about it, now the big Hearts story....guess the scotsman is trying to court the scummers.

Wont they look silly when Barca play someone else....or Celtic @ Murrayfield which I've heard is under negotiation.....

Seven Tattoos is on the way to a first team debut
Re: Yams v Barca at Murrayfield

jUST SCAnned that report in the Holyrood Jambo (have they got a photo of Hibs' triumphant bus journey down Leith 6 weeks ago in their boardroom yet? I'm willing to bet they haven't) and, quite franky, it is nothing more than PR company inspired newspaper spin. Outside the traditional Fleet Street nationals there are very few 'real' journalists left. All the guys on the provincials (and The Scotsman, like The Western Mail, can be classed as such) get their stories from PR companies, who are, in the main, staffed by former journalists. The likelihood is hertz are willing to pay a bit more, be messed about a bit more to get this game, which, of course, their deluded children of the damned support will use to wind us up and propagate the myth that they are the capital's 'BIG' team. The historical reality is Barcelona have only ever played one of Edinburgh's teams in European competition. That was, of course, Hibernian, during the 1960-61 season. The aggregate score? 7-6 to that 'wee' team. It was 4-4 at the Nou Camp (Tommy Preston, who was recently honoured at a special dinner, scored twice) before 50,000 plus saw a famous 3-2 win for the Hibs on a cold night in late February. I'm proud to say that my Dad was there.

Maybe Barca are worried they'd get humped again. After all, in simple terms of European competition, hertz are the easier option.

exactly, who gives a flying periscope? It will not be 1st team and it will be a training event for them. Least we have gameS vs 1st team Premiership outfits. The Boro game should be fun !

Re: Yams v Barca at Murrayfield

i hate to spout the truth and sound like a closet jambo but is see where barca are coming from on this. We are edinburgh's second team, hearts have been more successful than us in recent times and hearts are probably willing to put more cash towards this.

makes sense really.

name one, just one, of my points which you can disprove.

I know most people here are disillusioned enough to think we're on an equal pegging but we're not. I prefer it, we're a bit more of an exclusive members only club as it were.

I kind of see where you're coming from.....and I agree, Hearts with their (alleged) infinite numbers of zeroes at the end of their balance sheet probably got them the Barcelona game.

I don't agree that they're bigger though.

They got pumped out of Europe by an average AEK team and propogate a myth of "sold out stadiums since 1914" and being a "big team".

The guy with the biggest car, doesn't necessarily have the biggest cock.

Re: Yams v Barca at Murrayfield

i prefer not playing wiht barca, look what happened to the egyptian team al ahli when they played with them last few weeks, they celebrated the 100 anniversary but barca spoiled it with a win 4#0. i wud better see hibs playing against another team that is at same level as them.. it s pre season matches not celebrations, it s games where we should benefit not taking photos or exchanging tshirts with stars.

Pity, I may have come up for that.

They're probably scared of another skelping at our hands. Far better with a pub team.

they are however willing to splash the cash when it matters and have a sugar daddy who is happy to buy (or at least loan) players of a high standard, the fact that they still have a shot at europe may also help things.

The thing that I have never understood is why the Gunts call us "the wee team."

I've no doubt that it is them that smells of wee.

For the avoidance of doubt, anything stated in the above post is written without prejudice; is probably completely uninformed opinion, and possibly just a figment of my imagination. Readers should either ignore, treat with contempt, or simply accept the spirit it is written in, without recourse to huffy replies, legal action or threats of violence.
That includes YOU.

Gies peace. This propoganda could have come straight from the mouth of the most rabid jambo and no-one would have batted an eyelid.
Coming from a Hibby (allegedly) however it creates a somewhat different impression.
