Goal Keepers

Why are our keeper's not doing to well, I'm starting to think that its the Goal Keeper Coach...now and maybe not the keeper's look at Zibby now Brown was ok for a while now Mcneil seems be having a lot of errors to....I know he is young....

Do any of you guys think it could be the coaching.......

Re: Goal Keepers

absolutely no excuse for McNeil - everyone in the ground knew where the ball was heading - Adam almost dared McNeil to leave a gap - he did, with a 2 man wall, and got punished. Amateur. Blame McNeil, blame Marshall. Collins looked very very angry. I do not believe he thinks McNeil is the answer to anything.

Re: Goal Keepers

to beaten once was bad enough but twice , we have now thrown away at least 20 points this season through goalkeeping errors, lets hope we get the right man next season because just now our keepers are an embarrsment

Re: Goal Keepers

When everyone was desperate for an alternative to Zibi and Brown earlier in the season and the young fella came in, I said at the time it was a risky strategy. The one position that needs more maturity and carries the biggest responsibility and burden is between the sticks and I worried that it was too much, too soon for McNeil. That said, with Coco the Clown and Simple Simon the only other options, Collins really had little other alternative.

I do not wish to be too harsh on the young lad, he is still learning the most technical of positions at the highest level he has played at so far - and every step up for a goalkeeper brings many adjustments to their game. (Having a promising keeper in the family, we are going through these progressions first hand ourselves)

He will come back from these blows but he cannot be held as culpable as more experienced pros such as Haudit and Doddit...

FWIW I believe we will start the new season with a new more experienced player in goals and Andy can go back to learning his trade at the right pace, without the extreme pressures he faces just now. He and we will be better off for that in the long run.

As for Marshall, who knows? I have to say the goalie in our house doesn't rate his warm ups too well...criticises his ability to even deliver a decent ball to the keepers as they try to go through their drills. Most of his deliveries end up in the FF stand...

I was one of the punters defending him, and at no point did i say he was the answer!! He has undoubted ability and will be a future Hibs and Scotland goalie, IMHO. But we do need a more experienced keeper, to both help and challenge McNeil.

As i've said before the lad is only 19, remember when Gordon was that age? He was a touch ropey also. Ye wouldnae disagree that he is an outstanding keeper now though(plays for a pishy side right enough).

Re: Goal Keepers

With the lack of activity in the transfer market, McNeill was the answer short term. At the end of the day he's better than SB and ZM. The guy is only 20 FFS ......give him a year or so as back up to an experienced keeper and I think he will show his worth.
