Four Carlings, One DVD and A Video

is how I coped with Tuesday night's disappointment. To be fair, if there'd been more lager in the fridge then I'd've drank them and, consequently, would have watched more old Hibbie vids. But there wasn't. Which is probably a good thing for my continued employment; I've had two 'emergency holidays' already this season, once after the weekend of the Alan Freeland game and once after the Salesperson of the Year awards. But I go off on a phuckin' tangent like Miss Taylor in Jane Austen's 'Emma'.

I couldnae make it up for the semi, I literally couldnae afford it. Pished ma bonus up the wall on the weekend of the first game. And doing two jobs as I do I worked until half eight in a call centre. Moodz and The Goose suggested I try and find a boozer in town that had Sky and might show the match. The Goose, in particular (having visited me and having Soul Crew mates down here). suggested I try that Welsh bastion of Jungle Jimmery 'Dempseys'. Let me tell you, having lived in Wales from 1996 - 2001 and again from Nov 04 to the present, no one in South Wales gives a philatelist's phuck about Scottish football down here. The only times I've managed to see Hibs on Sky down here it's either been in the pub I worked in (2-2 SC game v sheep 23.1.97 and 1-1 against tims in the next round) or a pub where the manager was a personal friend (3-0 v huns last year). And there are always loads of moaning bastards who want it switched over. Or put the phucking jukebox on. Not a pleasurable experience.

Anyway, I got in and felt nervous as phuck. I really had a bad feeling about the match, like I've done against hertz last year, Clydebank in 87 and so on ad nauseum. So I couldn't relax and watch the Ceefax and went out for a run instead. In an old Hibs top, the 1999 Franck Sauzee vintage. I passed Ninian Park and mentally debated doing the Ayatollah before deciding against it. Much as I enjoy going down the City there's only room for One True Love in my life. And that is Hibernian FC.

I don't know if there are any other runners on this site but if there are then they'll probably agree that running is like a form of athletic meditation, it affords you the peace of mind to think through life's travails with a clarity that is conspicuous by its absence the rest of the time. I thought of how Dad, Grant and I would struggle to get tickets and along with Kenny Hogan of the Glasgow branch we would try and get club corporates. I thought that me, Dad and Grant might all turn up wearing our kilts at the final. I also thought of Craven's 'David Essex Ultras' bus, with everyone wearing a pink Hibs polo top on the day and how bloody cool that would look.

However, when I got in and turned to look at the telly - I'd left it on at Ceefax page 321 - it bluntly blurted out the disappointing and harsh reality, 'DUNFERMLINE 1-0 HIBERNIAN'. I noted that the time was 9.35pm, and that the time of the goal was 88 minutes, that it was a penalty. It still wasn't a result though so could we score a dramatic late equaliser? No.

The Goose phoned me from Mount Florida, Sanchez texted to say, 'how many phucking times'? I think he spoke for all of us there. Lix phoned from the net bus (traitor!) to say it was my fault cos I'd told her we'd lose! Sadly I don't possess such powers, I'm just a seasoned, wearied, perennially disappointed in the Scottish Cup Hibbie. Like you. Like your Dad. Like all of us.

The TV was waxing lyrical about Man Utd. Who gives a phuck about Man Utd? I don't. I only care about A Love Supreme. On Albion Road.

By this time it was about 10.45 so I decided I needed cheering up. Only lager and the 50 Goals against hertz DVD had the answer. Watching that and counting how many of the goals I'd actually seen, how many of the games I'd been at fair cheered me up. Filled me with hope. Especially when you see Donnie run on and snog Darren Jackson at Swinie in 1994 - he's still got that green lacoste coat! He wore it to Jaynes a week past Monday and telt me!

You can actually briefly see me during the slow-mo replay of John O'Neill's goal at Swinie in 2001; I'm wearing a cream jumper and black jacket, standing in the front row, directly above a St Etienne Allez Les Verts flag.

After that I watched the TWTTTW video and the irony of watching a programme about a famous Hibs victory over Dunfermline at Hampden, in one cup competition, on the evening we lost another game against the same club, at the same venue, but in an earlier round of the other cup competition dawned on me. And the irony of the clubs' respective penalty scorers both being called 'McIntyre'.

Maybe I think too much.

Or drink too much.

Re: Four Carlings, One DVD and A Video

I'm not a phuckin' genius, in fact, there are several Bouncers on this site (most notably zondervan, The Goose, Hibzbullah and Moodz) who would confirm that I often behave like a penis.

By the way, is it just me or is it somewhat ironic that in 1991 we won our last trophy, beating Dunfermline in the final, but then on Wednesday 19 August Killie knocked us out (3-1 aet, I was phuckin' devastated man) and now in 2007 we finally win that cup again (having lost to Killie 3 times and the Pars once in the intervening years in the same competition) against Killie, but then Dunfermline knock us out the other cup.

There's a recurring theme here. It's called Dunfermline and Kilmarnock play prominent roles in the Hibbie barometer of success.

Which way will the pendulum swing next season?

P.S. Don't be phuckin' surprised if the Pars knock us out next season's CIS cup!

You hit the nail right on the head there! I was planning/dreaming even of a great day out with my Dad & mates, thats what its all about. Guess I thought the Semi was a dead cert, like it mostly is & like it sometimes does, it lets us down.
