Andy McNeill

After looking at some of the comments on the YPOTY thread , I find it interesting that some posters are still unsure of Andy's ability!! Especially when you consider the pressure any goalkeeper has to endure apart from the added pressure he had to face by following two 'keepers who were slated by the Hibs support after a number of high profile gaffes. Add the fact that Andy IS only 19 with very limited experience and it really was a massive gamble by JC to literally throw him in at the deep end!
Now I know that Andy made A mistake against the Jambos recently but apart from a difficult match against ICT he has been magnificent, making world class saves in almost every other game . The difference for me is that he actually looks like a goalkeeper, has good concentration levels and is without a doubt is a brilliant shot stopper! I know he is a bit on the short side but I reckon his physique and bravery more than makes up for that and remember the best 'keeper I have ever seen at ER (Goram) wasn't exactly a giant.
Before the "doubters" reply I would ask them all to ask themselves the question-------
----------Are you terrified every time the ball comes anywhere near Andy the way we all were when Zibby and Simon Brown were in goal?????

Lets face it Foster should have been closed down long before he shot , he hit it very well but should never been given the chance imo

I think he was left very exposed by his defence for that goal (and the second). I watched the match in the four in hand and there were a couple of erses who blamed McNeil for both goals. Foster's strike was a cracker, although he should have been closed down.

I think McNeil did show signs of inexperience at times e.g. the penalty incident. However, I think he has shown great promise and I can't think of anyone better we could sign within our price range. I'm not sure about Dorus De Vries. Is it not just that he's been so busy this season in goals for Dunfermline that the law of averages states he is always going to make a couple of decent saves in a game ?

I think we should stick with McNeil next season, unless JC can unearth an as yet unheard of gem.

He's impressed me with his ability quite well. The only thing that worries me a bit is his height which may lead to an inability to reach for the high ball. How tall is Andy anyways?

Do you mean the one where he gave away the penalty. IMO opinnion - whilst I agree he showed commitment - he also showed a complete lack of judgement. Still like him for the number 1 jersey though.

Cant believe how good this young keeper is. What a find. And he's going to get better and better. Not bothered if he makes the occasional mistake cos he's just 19 and thats all part of his learning curve. Can see him being Craig Gordon's understudy soon enough in the national team and possibly even ousting him in time.

nah where he bravely won the ball in the air, and was close to landing on his neck(which could have broken it) looked very sore.

Excellent young keeper, but would still like us to sign someone with a bit more experiance in the summer, even if it only for back-up

i was crapping myself when Brown came on at halftime in the semi

Re: Andy McNeill

I thought Andy McNeil had a great game yesterday, yes he is inexperienced but for the amount of great saves especially the penalty I don't think any Hibs fan could slate him at all.

I hope he stays at Hibs and I certainly have a lot more confidence watching him that the other 2 misfits. When you think how many games Zibby has cost us this season, we could have been a lot further up the league because we have the quality, let's just hope this continues and further more well done to all the youngsters yesterday, they done us more than proud.
