Wanted To Thank All the Hibees

I moved to Edinburgh 8 months ago from California to study at the University of Edinburgh. Coming from the States where soccer (football) isn't covered by the media, I had reservations about learning and watching the sport in Scotland. I did my research online before moving here, and chose to support Hibs over Hearts for the simple reason that to me, an outsider, the Hibs felt more Scottish while the Hearts seemed like a team that had moved here from Eastern Europe.

After these 8 months my perception of football has completely changed. I now find it one of the most exciting sports in the world, and I owe it all to the Hibs and there fans. I've gone to 6 game thus far this year (limited budget being a student and all) and I just wanted to thank all the Hibees for making the game exciting for me.

I don my Sproule Jersey and Hibs scarf proudly at every contest I am fortunate enough to go to. Hail, Hail, The Hibs Are Here!

Always surprised how football ( soccer) has never made it big in a sports mad country like the USA. To us it is far superior to Baseball and Basketball, even American Football.

Is there a press cartel or something that refuses to give our game decent coverage ?

Re: Wanted To Thank All the Hibees

Think I'm going to have to try to make it to that Hibee's Bounce dance. Sounds like a kick in the ass.

With regards to the press coverage and football in the U.S. I'm no expert on the subject but I think it has to do with the overall lack of support from the country as a whole. Football is not a part of our past time and therefore it's going to take awhile for people to accept it. Within recent years it has grown in popularity mostly due to growing media coverage, better World Cup coverage, and the growing Mexican population.

The MLS signed a new deal this year with some television company to give the sport national coverage. But have you ever listened to the American announcers who cover the games? The are phish. It will take time, but one day football will be as big as all of the other U.S. sports.

Anyone with any other incites, please chime in.

Re: Wanted To Thank All the Hibees

Don't the Americans have a problem with games that can end 0-0...? Draws are kinda an alien concept to them. Certainly American Football has had something like two or three drawn games in the last 30 years or so. If two teams are evenly matched, why should a draw not be a valid result?

Also, football is not stop/start enough to allow for the multiple Advertising breaks that US TV companies all like to have, so it's hard for them to generate revenue with limited airtime.
