Re: favourite hibby player over the years

Paddy & Jimmy were my favourites as a lad, but Ally McLeod was also a revelation.

Darren Jackson was brilliant for a couple of years, Sauzee/Latapy/Mixu .......the older you get the longer the list.

I could go on and on.

Apparently I do.

Frequently.

Or so they say.

Wasters.

Re: favourite hibby player over the years

i've often heard it said that he was the best uncapped hibs player of his era...i've been in his newsagents in bonnyrigg on many an occassion to pay homage to his undoubted brilliance but his wife is usually serving...my personal hibs favourite is probably alex cropley for no other reason than an unhealthy childhood obsession...

Re: favourite hibby player over the years

So many..

Pat Stanton: Boyhood hero. Mr Hibs.

Frank Sauzee : A great player for Hibs, and the consumate professional

Ally McLeod: One of my favourite Hibs players of all time. Hugely underrated. Brilliant finisher. Totally arrogant, but always could score in the big games and particularly against Hearts.

Darren Jackson : Many people disagree with me on Jacko, but for me he was the one of the most complete players I have seen at ER in the last 20 years. Passing, shooting, finishing, all superb. Very strong on the ball as well. He took all the penalties and free-kicks as well. Great player. Five tremendous years with Hibs.

Pat McGinlay : Wish we had someone just now who could score the amount of goals he could from midfield.

John Collins : Pure class. I always thought JC played like a top continental player rather than a scottish player. Hopefully will turn out to be as good a manager as he was a player.

Many more :, Arthur Duncan, Des Bremner, Jackie McNamara, Mickey Weir, keith Wright...

For so many great childhood memories though, my no1 has to be King Paddy

that last post was regarding stevenson rather than mcleod although it could be said that mcleod too was the best uncapped player of his generation,he was the master of the 25 yard pass into the net

Absolutely.

'Passing' into the goal is just perfect.

A genius.

There was another talented guy at Morton who the media loved, Andy Ritchie?, who got the headlines but couldn't lace Ally's boots.

I totally agree. IMHO, he almost single handedly saved us from relegation in season 96-97. That night at new Broomfield still gives me shivers (McQuilken

To be fair I remember he had a bit of ability, just not as much as Ally.
Both were 'slow' players who demanded the ball to feet. Fcuk this running after it stuff.
Both could bend it like Beckham before we ever knew Beckham was a bender.

Aye.

Jerseys for goalposts etc etc

aye, theres no doubting ritchie had bags of ability as well as a shot like a scud missile but his bulk probably hindered his career...i'm sure he would have got a big money move to england or the old firm if he wasn't the same shape as the honey monster.

Re: favourite hibby player over the years

Benny is my Mr Hibs. Back in the days when Hibs were really shite (believe me, they used to be really shite), Benny was a stalwart.

There were others;
John Collins is probably my real favourite Hibby. He was the man while I was serving my time on the old east terrace. Paul Kane, Beastie, and Goram being 3 others.

Like myself Stuart Crowther cannot see past the utter, utter genius of Willie Hamilton.
Nobody has surpassed him in the years that I've watched Hibs. Several have come close.
