Do You Remember.........
Saturday 18 April 1998? Dunfermline 1-1 Hibs. Seven days after we ended hertz' hopes of winning the title eight thousand Hibbies travelled the short distance to Fife on a glorious sunny afternoon, which possibly eclipsed Sunday in Glasgow. Though whether or not everyone's fave Leith carpet fitter Allan 'The Body' Munro was featured in subsequent televisual highlights I couldn't say! Hibs really needed all three points as there were only another nine available after this one and Motherwell, our nearest rivals for the dreaded drop had been picking up some surprise results, such as a recnt victory over the forces of darkness.
Unfortunately, things didn't really go to plan and Grant the Bookie put through his own goal to give the Pars the lead. However, McLeish's Hibs were fighters if nothing else and an injury time header by Brian Welsh - which was barely over the line - ensured we'd live to fight another day. Interestingly, in McLeish's spell in charge of us that season, i.e. P12 W2 D6 L4, we drew four games 1-1 due to injury time equalisers: - Sat 21 Mar (a) St Johnstone Rougier pen - Sat 28 Mar (h) Aberdeen Rougier pen - Sat 18 Apr (a) Dunfermline Welsh - Sat 9 May (a) Killie Crawford. I've never known, before or since, such a run of '90' as the scorer time for Hibs in my time as a supporter. I'd seriously doubt it's ever been bettered. Having said that, our First Division campaign included many late goals. For example, on Tuesday 4 August it began at Cappielow with an injury time goal by Barry the eckie-heed for a 1-0 win! I ken nowt about eckies though!

Re: Do You Remember.........
For some reason i remember this game like it was yesterday, dunno why? I was only 12 or summit!
I was stood right at the front behind the goals and was also on the highlights when bremner scored that own goal. As we were one nil down and believing we were for the drop we headed up to the top of the stand heading for the exit, when we got a corner (iirc) up the other end of the pitch. Up goes bryan Gunn for the coner and the ball ends up in the net we thought he had some how managed to score. Unfortunately it wasnt gunn who had scored, but if anyone can remember his celebration it seemed like he had! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. Re: Do You Remember.........
We're playing Dunfermline next Tuesday at Hampden and in a ground that holds 52,000 it's all ticket. We played them on a Saturday at East End Park (which held about 12,000 at the time) and despite every man and his dug knowing there would be a huge Hibs support that game was pay at the gate. The gates for the terracing were shut at about 2ish and you could see thousands wandering about the ground outside who had made it too late. IIRC virtually the whole main stand ended up full of Hibbies as well.
When we scored the equaliser for that game so late on, and after so many other late goals, I actually started to believe we might just do it and stay up. By that point Motherwell looked like they were not going to be relegated, and if we didn't beat Dunfermline that day they were virtually safe. Only side it left that I felt we could realistically catch was Dundee Utd, and they were playing the huns on the last day of the season, and us the week before that. That game put them only 6 points clear but they had a far better goal difference so the last minute equaliser was a lifeline. We needed to get a better result than them the next week when we were at Parkhead and they were at home to St Johnstone. And we did. It's the fecking hope that kills you, I tell you...
