Seven Tattoos is on the way to a first team debut
Do You Remember.........

Saturday 17 April 1993? I think Kenny has covered this on another thread (I noticed, but have yet to look at, his ON THIS DAY post), however, I'll bore you all with my own semi-autistic mammaries of this day. Hibs had been knocked out the Scottish Cup semi on a horribly disappointing day at Swinie just two weeks earlier, a day on which the CCS restored a bit of pride to the Hibernian cause by winning the pavement dancing bout at Haymarket. Since then we'd played twice, a 2-2 draw with St Johnstone before a game at Tannadice in mid-week when Keith Wright grabbed all the goals in a 3-0 win. I think I'm Wright in saying that this was the first away hat-trick by a Hibs player since Arthur Duncan in a 4-3 win at Muirton Park in the inuagural premier league season of 1975-76. Possibly Gunner or Bobby or SlovSam can put me right. Incidentally, Grant Brebner scored a hat-trick there in a 3-2 Scottish Cup success on Sat 25 January 2003 and Stevie Crawford got all the goals at Somerset Park in a 3-1 win on Sat 27 Feb 1999. That was Franck Sauzee's second game as a Hibs player and I got my first tattoo, the Planet Saturn Hibs badge, done at Tribal Urge in Portsmouth that day.

Apologies for my digressions, my mind is a library of lunacy with differing memories mixed in together, like the ingredients in a kind of autistic, alcoholic, Tourettes broth.

My Dad (in his capacity as IFA Sales Manager at the Wids in Glasgow) had been on a golf day at the Dalmahoy Hotel during the week at which then Celtic boss Liam Brady was in attendance. Apparently, Brady was a perfect gentleman and spoke highly of Hibs and had stressed how he envisaged a tough match on the Saturday.
Well, the genial Irishman must have had a good crystal ball as we were two up within seven minutes! First Evans was fouled and Jackson converted the penalty off the inside of the post after three minutes before Gareth scored with a header! It really was one way traffic going down the slope and it was no surprise when Keith Wright put us three up after a one-on-one after 39 minutes.

Charlie Nicholas pulled a goal back for them after 79 minutes but we won confortably. I enjoyed my shift as a barman at The Black Bull Hotel in Milngavie that evening as I let the patronising Celtic supporters know their team had been Wright royally humped!

Oh, I'd love a scoreline like that if we make it to the final in a few weeks!

But, that is a big bloody 'if'.
