Goals, we need to score goals

But where are they going to come from? Benji is not on fire at the moment and Fletch is looking off form too. You get the feeling that a goal will spark us off and trigger another run of good form. We don't have many options up front with Killen injured... would any of you like to see Sowunmi given a start?

Re: Goals, we need to score goals

Sowunmi has the speed of the sloth, the touch of an elephant and appears to have the positional awareness of a geriatric in a mirrors-and-lights tunnel at the amusements fair. He is gash. I would - seriously - start Morrow before I'd start Sowumni. Essentially: Killen injured, Benjelloun Fletcher not on form. Sowunmi Morrow poor quality. Campbell Lynch Chisholm Gray highly inexperienced, hardly any reserve games between them never mind first team matches. So I'm afraid we'll have to stick with Benji and Fletch (pray neither injured).

Re: Goals, we need to score goals

To be honest I think we need to create more chances. It's not that the strikers are playing crap, it's that they aren't being supplied with enough clear cut chances.

Of course goals win games and not chances, but chances lead to goals....erm yeah we should try to make some more of those lol

Re: Goals, we need to score goals

Time and time again yesterday decent to difficult balls came into the box and Benji and Fletch were absolutely nowhere - neither has a clue about being a striker in the more traditional sense - great at the wonder strikes (in the case of Fletcher) and good with ball at feet (in the case of Benji). I don't think Morrow offers any more in this department - he seems too much like a Fletcher style player. I would try Sowumni not cause I think he's any good but just to see if he has any striking instincts and to confirm whether he is actually any good whatsoever. I suspect however that his non-appearance recently suggests JC has made up his mind.

Since we got no cover for Killen in the January window - which I thought was a bad bad decision given our position in the Cup, this is now all about next season and awaiting Clayton Donaldson - big ask of the guy.

Re: Goals, we need to score goals

There was a few good cut backs from Brown and there was not 1 striker or midfielder busting a gut to get on the end of it. Benji hasn't been playing his best recently but he has improved dramatically under JC which is brill. He needs to learn to stop falling over when has ran past defenders. The incident in the last 10 mins was a prime example he was just about clear and granted the DA player put a hand accross but he went down! TAKE THEM ON!!!!

Have to agree with you AD. Sowumni might not be the best but he could at least ruffle a few feathers, maybe cause a bit of panic - fuk me we could even have done with Konte, he might have been p1sh but he threw himself into his work. Remember the mali magician making a couple of hertz players disappear - no skill plenty of heart - maybe we need that right now (the heart not the lack of skill).

Re: Goals, we need to score goals

There were quite a few balls played into the box yesterday that any natural striker/poacher would have loved..

IF Dean Shiels is still part of things then we could do a lot worse than play him in his natural position..

Re: Goals, we need to score goals

Totally agree with most of these posts. I would definitely play Shiels in the replay (provided he's still part of JC's plans). Also, we could do worse than give Sowumni a run-out on Saturday to see if he could offer us anything in the replay. The league's knackered and we already know what Fletch and Benji can offer us so why not give the boy 90 minutes? He may well be Konte Mk II, but we've not seen him in enough action to know for sure.

Re: Goals, we need to score goals

I'd give Sowumni a chance too - his second-half cameo against QoS looked promising - but I fear he may be injured? Has he been playing for the reserves last couple of weeks?

Re: Goals, we need to score goals

Fletcher has been pretty poor all season imo. I think he's a player, and will develop into a top striker but I'm not as 100% convinced of that as I was last year. I'm really hoping this is just a bit of a second season syndrome kicking in with defenders learning to play him a bit better and that he can overcome that. Probably not helped by having virtually no break from football last summer (and he won't get one this close season either).

An absolutely terrible time for Benji to have suffered a dip in form as well.

I would not be remotely surprised if Damon Gray gets a start at Pittodrie next week.

Re: Goals, we need to score goals

I think damon gray could be what we need, ive not seen him play but if he has scored all they goals then he must know where to position himself for cutback and watever, so he would be where we needed players on sunday in the middle of the box from cutbacks.
