Disabled supporters being victimised?

Our fine club draws its support from various groups, types and gender, and that includes disabled fans, people who through no fault of their own suffer ill health and disabilities that prevent them from living normal livves some of us take for granted.

Our club have been great in looking after these fans, as some of the facilities around our stadium testify, last year a disabled fan could purchase a season ticket for £65.00, this year they have increased it to £190.00 to me that is an increase of 200%.

How can our club ask one set of supporters to suffer that kind of jump and not the others,to me that is discrimination,or am I wrong.

If hibs have a lot of disabled supporters taking up seats they may deem it better financialy to drive them out and get full paying ST holders in.

Discussion has taken place with russell smith and I now await a response from Judith Quinn.

If the increase stands I know a lot of life long hibs supporters who will reluctently turn their backs on a club they love but sadly sees them as an easy target to rip off.

Alex Moffatt.

I agree 200% is a huge increase and I'm not sure how they can explain it.

How do prices at ER for people with disabilities compare to other grounds? FWIW £190 sounds a quite reasonable price to me.

My dad is a disabled season ticket holder and after phoning the ticket office yesterday they said teh price is based on where in the ground you sit.

We sit in the Famous Five and it is going to coast £115.

Its not the cost that provides the debate, its the sharp increase,my mate would have accepted paying £190 but the problem here is to slap an increase of 200%,without warning, on his ticket when other supporters are only being asked to pay a small increase, that is unfair however you look at it.

Last Year he paid £65, but when the disabled prices were introduced last season he was surprised at £65, we thought it was going to be more, and sort off half expected the prices to go up much higher this year.

I'm entering territory i perhaps don't have enough information on so perhaps i shouldn't proceed but i will anyway..

In principle i agree that everyone should pay something.

However, surely there are a lot of disabled folk who are probably the most disadvantaged in our society and this is reflected in their disposable income?

I'd suggest that there are more disabled fans with less disposable income than students or OAP's?

All available research shows that working disabled folk earn much less than working non-disabled and of course the percentage of actual working is much higher in non-disabled.

Crazy that we have a retired multi millionaire paying less for a season ticket at ER than an unemployed disabled person..

Absolutely Eck - push them all the way.

For instance, to sit in the east stand this year sees an increase of £20 on my season ticket.

It should be a statutory increase for all, now lumping on extra amounts where they feel like it.

how the advertising should read. "Once again we have kept any increases to a minimum with the price of an adult ticket going up by approximately £1 per game. Senior Citizen prices have increased by approximately 75p per game and all other prices have been increased by approximately 25p per game, oh and sadly(ha,ha,ha,)disabled supporters will have to pay approximately £6.57 more per game".

Re: Disabled supporters being victimised?

What do people think of the facilities for disabled people at ER?.

I remember going to Old Trafford with a guy in a wheelchair and the facilities were superb. They had separate raised enclosure with excellent views of the pitch.

Whenever I see the disabled fans at pitch level at ER I always think how crap a view they must have. Although I think at Old Trafford the pitch is below street level meaning your wheelchair access was easier.

Just received an e-mail from the club.

" Mr Moffatt,
Since replying to your E-mail yesterday, we as a club realize that the pricing quoted for disabled supporters is not satisfactory, can you give me a couple of hours to discuss pricing with my Directors and I will come back to you with the new price.

Judith.

From what's been posted above it looks like Disabled fans will now be paying the same prices that Senior Citizens pay. That means your mate's ticket would rise from £65 to £190 if you stay in the East. If you could swap to the Famous Five (lower) then it'd be £115 - still quite a hefty increase.

The problem seems to be that last year's prices were maybe a bit too low so the increase is too sudden... a bit like JC's rapid change to training methods perhaps? I have no idea what qualifies someone as Disabled at Easter Road? Maybe there are a number of "incapacity" types buying up tickets at the low prices? I agree with what someone else said, Disabled people do seem to suffer financially in terms of work opportunities so may well deserve lower prices than well off pensioners or middle-class students, however I think the student prices are not too cheap for someone who is a student without rich parents.

In my experience Hibs are good with community outreach. I've worked with Blind kids who get commentary along with their season tickets and I've worked with a guy who needs 24/7 living support who gets freebies a couple times a year - the Livi 7-0 game being one of them!

I actually thought the new Season Ticket brochure was really well presented (although I now know the missing out of the £6.75 increase for Disabled bit) and showed imagination. Is it also maybe a sly dig at the PBS becoming housing property soon?

NB. just read Eck's post re email from Ticket Office, sounds like they are willing to admit the increase was way too sharp, good to hear they can acknowledge some errors
