If we are going to buy players of a sufficient quality to improve the squad, then you need at least a million quid or so per player, and we would be better using that money elsewhere than to (potentially) strengthen a rival team, or simply to ‘spend it’ on a player when a cheaper option may exist.

The present squad were all pretty well found at no cost, and that will be the way forward for Hibs and indeed many others. Apart from the Super Rich Clubs, the Bosman brought an end to buying of players for the vast majority.

If we can continue to source the likes of Ivan and Benjie then the fact that we paid nought for them is a good rather than a bad thing.

If you're going to start buying players you don't announce that you're brewstered first or the asking price goes up.

We do have money. We have money now because we haven't lashed out on players wages & ridiculous transfer fees.

Hibs cup is half full. Not that long ago it was empty.

JC is right he doesn't have any money to buy players as Mr Petrie has obviously put the kybosh on Hibs going out and blowing £1m on a player who may or may not succeed.

However what we are not being told is how much money Hibs have to attract players in the form of signing on payments, wages, salaries and bonuses which is a completely different game of tiddleywinks.

Last year Hibs made a profit of £2.2m which if you take out the Garry O money means they made a profit of £0.7m

Since then wages have remained constant,attendances and merchandise sales have rocketed and there has been two fantastic cup runs.

Hence this years profit will be £2m plus the TweedleDumber money of £2m plus the Scott Brown money to come of £3m which makes a staggering £7m profit for this financial year.

Hibs are the richest club by far in the SPL outwith the usual suspects so JC is being a little economical with the truth unless of course there is indeed no money available in which case that is an absolute travesty and a disgrace.

I would hope your estimate of £3M for Brown is a touch conservative. If he continues to perform, no reason why he can't have a few decent clubs knocking on his door. It would be a travesty if he had the blinkers on & ended up with Katie.
His talent deserves better.
