Now that there is a new wave about everybody round the club. Does everyone reckon we will make an impact on Europe? Providing we beat Dumfermline OF COURSE.

For me the next step is to be playing European football untill Christmas, the UEFA cup group stages are a must. The next level for us is to be reaching the group stages every year.

Spot on. A club with a population base of between 200k-250k should be looking at qualifying for the UEFA Cup Group Stages. Consider Odense (who knocked us out of the Intertoto R2 on away goals), they were nothing special and they got to the group stages and only missed out on qualifying for the knock-out stages on goal difference. There are quite a few 'wee' teams get into the UEFA Cup group stages.

HOWEVER it is actually a very long time since any Scottish club managed to make it through more than a couple of rounds of a competition - and ages since anyone outside Old Firm. Unless we win the Scottish Cup final (or finish third in the SPL......) we're going to be in the UEFA Q2 so while the aim must be the group stage, we have to be realistic and say getting to R1 would be acceptable.

Whether we win the Scottish Cup or not this season (I'm still sceptical) the aim has to be progression in European football, and challenging for 2nd/3rd in SPL next year.
