Cup build up

Is it me or is the build up to the final very low key? Maybe it will start properly after the falkirk game, but I do wonder whether or not we are approaching hampden with more dread than anticipation. I would hate to see previous scenes repeated where the fans nervous approach is transferred onto the pitch. In my living memory we have gone to hampden so many times with this nervous approach and almost expecting it to be the same old Hibs who always let you us down on the big occasion. But I wonder how much it is really the fans who let the team down.

I remember finals in the league cup in 72 where you just knew we were going to win and then in 91 where we were so happy to be still going and all swept along on the romance of our wonderful club that justice had to be done. I think the fans gave that believe to the players and the players responded. Most other finals we have either not had the faith or as in the case of 2004 had too much complacency and that has transferred onto the players.

We don't have the best team we have had compared to the last 3 years, but in John Collins we have a man I believe who knows how to win cups. Our performances recently have not been great but we only need one moral boosting game against falkirk to lift the club. Hopefully the fans, us, can give the players the little extra they need to be winners.

And FFS I pray we make some noise at hampden.

One of my main fears has to be that i think but i hope i am wrong that its going to be the exact same as all the previous finals which will be no atmosphere and the Killie fans will sing there hearts out while most of our crowd will just do what they did the last time and the time before that....i hope im wrong but i'll be singing my heart out not giving a shit what anyone thinks.

Re: Cup build up

There will be a nervous atmosphere in Hampden until we get a goal,,,The Hibs fans always turn out in there numbers (including the tw*ts that never been aw season),,For once i feel like the team will do the final with ease, Pending we can stay clear of injurys on sat,,although i think JC will play a mediocre side on sat,,keep the big guns for next week,,,,,One thing that does interest me is alot of Hibbies i have spoke to are not interested in winning the so called DIDDY CUP,,only because were in the semi's o the Scottish,,,But if we werent in the Scottish then surely this would be another big day on the calender......

Those people are idiots. Football is about trying to win everything you enter. I'll bet they didn't have that attitude when we knocked hertz out.

If we win next week it will be many (if not all) of the players first senior medal and that is special to any professional. To suggest that they just dismiss this match as Mickey Mouse is insulting to them.

Re: Cup build up

I think part of the reason is the ticket debacle.

With a week to go (Sunday) I still wont have a ticket in my paws.

Cant really get excited untill i KNOW I am goiing.

I want a FOXING ticket soooo bad!!!

Just praying nothing goes wrong 0900 Sunday morning, then nothing goes wrong with the postal system. (Praying smiley).

Re: Cup build up

I think so far its the perfect build up. Too much was said about the 40000 hibees going to the Livvy final and the fact we were favorites etc. This time theres been little said about anyone winning and there will be no clear favorite in my eyes. This should suit us and our players better.

If we win the Scottish Cup..how many rounds will we have had to play in? 5

If we win the CIS cup how many rounds will we have had to play in? 5

Were the Old Firm, Hearts, Aberdeen and all the other SPL clubs in both cups? yes

Is the only real difference between the CIS Cup and the Scottish Cup the fact that there are no non-league teams (therefore probably improving the standard? yes

Mickey Mouse Cup my arse

Re: Cup build up

Lets be honest as Hibs fans,,our team seems to have a barrier of fear that once the game starts it doesnt dissapear,,We cant go to Hampden for another let down,, i wonder where Katie will be sittin along with his chumps, Murray and Deek,,coz guaranteed as they said once upon a day "i rememer standing with ma family at skol cup final years ago and hoping one day itll be me" pppfffttt " and the "im a hibee through and through and there no prouder moment than to play for this club" Deh give the ****s a ticket,,give em to more honest fans that pay there cash every season for failure.,.,.,.,.

Re: Cup build up

Of course I'm nervous. Want to win it badly. Scottish will take care of itself. Nervous is good. Nervous means a good swallie before hand and loads of fans singing and cheering on our team.
Forget the past. It's all on the day and about the guys who play and we will do our best to get behind them.

The future's bright,

Re: Cup build up

I agree with a lot of what's been said and I would urge every bouncer to get right behind their team and sing their hearts out to take our great old club to the first of 2 cups this season. There's no need to be frightened . We have better players than Kilmarnock and a much more varied goal threat. Bring it on

Greenmachine will become famous soon enough
Re: Cup build up

I am reasonably happy with the build up so far. The only things that worry me are possible injuries to key players on Saturday, and the general form of the team. We have to start scoring goals again, and we need a confidence boosting performance and a victory against Falkirk.

Collins has been very clever to arrange things like the team bonding training week in Spain and the car racing day at Knockhill yesterday. I am as nervous as anyone about the Final as I desperately want to see Hibs winning this cup. TBH i'm not even thinking about the Scottish Cup as we have a far less chance of winning that with Celtic still being in it. I really hope Hibs for once play on the day, and we don't produce yet another anemic Hampden performance.

Got to agree with you sir. For me, goal-scoring is the problem. For my money, we did everything else (goalkeeping aside) quite well against the Sons of William, but looked like we could play another 90min without sticking one away.

That said, the return of we Zemamma fills me with hope, i'd like to see him get half the game tomorrow at least.

Shirley he and Benji should start the final, with Sproule coming on for the last 30.

Optomistic - you bet.

Re: Cup build up

I think we have many fans who are happy just to be there, and it takes something special to get them going.

Hopefully the team will come of the blocks firing on all cylinders and get an early goal and maybe a second before HT. A third 5 mins into the 2nd half and we can start to believe and then all 30K Hibees can chill and roar the team on.

Unless we get into a strong position the noise generated by the fans will be nowhere near what it could and should be..

I am now a part timer but a noisy bugger at games and get fed up with folk sitting on their backsides expecting things to happen.

We as Hibees have an opportunity to roar our lads on and cheer their every move. This is a chance for us to be part of History and we need to do our bit.
Most folk who read the Bounce I assume will be singing like me at every opportunity BUT many will not.

I fear we can't do much to make non singers sing. They need the team to play well before they get going, but don't seem to grasp the fact that their encouragement from the minute the team come up that tunnel till that final whistle can and does have an impact on how the players perform and of course just as importantly help sway the referee when making those key decisions.

Lets Roar the Boys on, and make a difference.

Re: Cup build up

think the atmosphere on the day will depend on how the game starts, if hibs come out the traps flying, playing a high tempo game, that will relax the fans and we will get behind them. If however we come out and start slowly, few misplaced passes etc, the fans will start to panic which will filter down to the players which could mean a long afternoon IMO

BTW there's been a lot of talk about there not being a lot between the teams but hibs have got to remember only naismith would be good enough to get in the hibs team the now, if we play to our best we WILL win, of that i'm sure!
