Killen vital to how we play

In my opinion the last few weeks/months since Killen got injured has shown how much our play revolves around his ability to hold the ball up and create space. He was great at that. Forget about the amount of goals he scored that was a vital contribution of his as well. We badly miss that IMO and that is a reason why we seem to fail in our passing game etc recently. We dont have someone who can do Killens job. Sowumni looks like he is quite fast and looks nothing like a guy who could hold the ball up. Fletcher cant hold a ball up to save himself, neither can Sproule who occasionally plays up front. Benji to be fair to the lad can do it and can do it quite well and he creates space. We saw that was evident after a few seconds of him coming on against Rangers. Question is why dont we just start with him?

My point is that Killen is a massive miss and is a key reason why we seem to be struggling to find form. Having said that we are still looking ok and bar a few goalkeeping blunders we would be much further up the league. I think goalies have cost us about 10 points this season, which would mean we would be sitting pretty in third with a healthy cushion. Killen back next season and a decent keeper and if we can hold on to stewart and boozy decides to play again, regardless if broony stays or goes we will have some team.

McNeil MUST be brought back in he at least looked solid with the bog standard crosses and low shots/freekicks he looked quite a decent keeper.

Bet you Collins was having a go at himself for keeping faith with Brown after the game.

Re: Killen vital to hpw we play

Totally agree.

When Killen got injured way back in early January I said at the time it was going to have massive consequences for our season unless Collins brought in a similar kind of player even on a short term loan deal. In a 4-3-3 system (which JC totally believes in), you have to have a strong target man who can hold the ball up and bring the supporting midfielders into play. I stated at the time that it was my opinion that unless we got someone in who could play the same role as Killen we would struggle to score goals thereafter. I suggested we revert to a 4-4-2 in the circumstances which would at least still give us a decent goal threat.

I had hoped Sowunmi could have filled that target man role, but based on Sundays performance he looks short of what is needed even allowing for his obvious lack of match practice. Encouragingly, I thought our back four played very well on Sunday, but were badly let down by Simon Brown.

I am really worried about the way the goals seem to have dried up at this most crucial stage of the season for us. As I said, I would go with a 4-4-2 and play Benji and Fletcher up front together. I would also get Scott Brown much further forward than he has been recently. Killie will be delighted to see Scott Brown line up in a deep midfield role on March 18th. I'd also get Stewart back in ASAP to play as our midfield anchorman. It is absolutely crucial that Collins gets his best team sorted out by Cup Final day, and all playing in positions where they can cause maximum damage to the opposition.

Re: Killen vital to hpw we play

IMO Killen is the most important attacking player we have. He makes and gets into space, he can hold the ball up well and win it in the air, and as we all know he knows how to find the net. His lack of pace isn't a particularly big problem because of the way he plays.

I reckon JC needs to find someone who plays like Killen, and soon, because for a fairly big guy he is unbelievably prone to injury, and it is likely he'll be offski come the end of next season.

That said, it will be interesting to see what Clayton Donaldson will bring to the team, when combined with Benji, Fletcher etc next season and what role he'll play if Killen does move on(or is injured).

Benji is capable of holding the ball up and laying it off to team mates. Of course he would nutmeg a couple of the oposition first
