Tam McManus on Trial According to the Sun

Just read todays Sun and there is small peice stating that Mcmanus is on trial this week at hibs.

Although he was a fans favourite when he was at hibs, hes no where near good enough for us. He couldnt even get a game far Falkirk.

Thoughts ??????

i think if we do sign him it will only be cover for benji fletch etc as we are pretty low on strikers if another one was to get injured i dont think it would be a bad bit of business

cheap striker for 6 months? we're no longer in the transfer window so we're not exactly spoilt with options.

Paul Hartley wasn't good enough when he left hibs, celtic bought him for a million spondoullies last week...

Re: Tam McManus on Trial Acoording the Sun

Personally, i always thought McManus was very average, i think we were just a little blind-sided in those days as to a very ordinary player performing , again in my opinion, a pretty ordinary job due to the fact he was young. If you look at the young players now we have produced, they are in a different class from the likes of Tam. Hes not young anymore, and perhaps he has a little bit more experience about him but i really don`t believe we should be signing first division type players, its all like being under Jim Duffy again. Plus the sun, writes alot of crap, anyway.

Re: Tam McManus on Trial Acoording the Sun

Tam hit some screamers for us and was top scorer one season but he's a confidence player. If he doesn't feel loved, he plays crap. And his confidence must be pretty low just now. We are very light on forwards but it's a strapping centre forward we really need. So, I can't see it happening.

He should be on trial for impersonating a football player.

This has to be a wind up.

Re: Tam McManus on Trial Acoording the Sun

I have to be honest and say that if he has sorted his attitude out (and not getting a regular game at Dundee or Falkirk must surely be a kick up the arse for anyones ego!) I wouldn't mind this short term. He has a reasonable bit of pace, can strike a ball, and he would be a decent back up imo. It's not like his wages are going to be on a level with what he was previously getting paid, and when people were talking about signing an experienced back up striker in the window I'm not sure exactly what they had in mind if it wasn't someone like Tam McManus tbh. He'll be cheap, he's available, he's got a bit of experience, he must be hungry to actually do something because he is getting very near the last chance at any sort of decent level, and there are some good things about his game.

If we don't sign him, I'm hardly going to lose any sleep about it, but imo we could do far worse than signing a player like him...

Agree with that, he wasn't the least talented player ever to play for Hibs, not by a long way, his attitude was his problem, if he's sorted that and JC thinks he can do a job then thats good enough for me. We are pretty light up front and he certainly won't be bad for back up.

Re: Tam McManus on Trial Acoording the Sun

theres not a lot to lose really. He cant command a big salary and if his attitude is not right then JC wouldnt have him around. He actually had a good game pre season before he left us but his attitude and affect on other players lost him a place. It is unlikely he would be strutting around like a prima donna having failed at the mighty falkirk and would really need to get some serious training. Its clear JC doesnt fancy havign Morrow in the side and if Fletch or Benji got injured we're kinda stuck. Free agents are all we can look at till the summer and you take less risks with a forward than a defender. Besides theres one woman at least on the bounce who just might like to see him back

Re: Tam McManus on Trial Acoording the Sun

Mowbray emptied him, presumably because of his attitude. Yogi emptied him because he wasn't good enough to break into Falkirk's first team. I'm struggling to see what, if anything, he could bring to our squad.

However, if JC sees something in his game that TC or MP can tease out, and on the basis that he'll be cheap, then why not? I suspect that Tam will be thanked for this services, and depart ER without a contract.

He proved he was good enough. Unfortunately his attitude hindered this.

A 5 month short term deal would be OK by me if JC thinks he could perform if called upon.

I would not take McManus back not many players return to the club where they started and do well, Tam was a great player when he was here and one of my favourite players at the time but then better and more talented players came in and forced him out, great guy and wish him all the luck but we do not need him.

Re: Tam McManus on Trial Acoording the Sun

Would welcome Tam back in an instant. He's scored some of the best goals i've ever seen Hibs score and I think his talent suffered greatly under the skill/flair-aphobic Blobby-Williamson. I think JC could get the best out of him, even if it's only till the end of the season.

He blesses himself sometimes too which the bigots don't like at all so it would be good for windup purposes.

(joke)

It was his contract and off field activities that saw him emptied, not his footballing ability. He won't get another contract like that from us (wasn't his fault) .

A much better striker than Benji IMHO

The point that most are making who are in favour of him returning is that we are woefully short of cover up front. He'd be an extra body in case of injury or suspension to Benji or Fletcher.
