Re: crowd capacity

That's not strictly true. Around 2,200 of the seating is in a modern, Almondvale-sized stand down one side of the pitch (the East Stand). A further 1,300 seats are located in the St Mirren-style Main (West) Stand which straddles the halfway line, and contains the dugouts and changing rooms.

There are small amounts of terracing in front of and to the sides of this Main Stand (an old fashioned Enclosure) of say 600 capacity. The front bit is covered. At the North end of the ground is the diehards end, now the largest terracing in Scotland (Morton's being part seated these days) which holds roughly 2,000 fans and has a massive gabled iron roof. At the South (Terregles) End, there is open terracing for about 500 fans.

HOWEVER the Terregles terrace is closed due to subsidence. And the terracing in front of the Main Stand isn't usually opened (although like for instance Raith, many fans slip down from the stand behind and watch the match the old fashioned way).

I would thus anticipate Hibs getting about 2,100 tickets (the entire East stand less a wee bit at the end for segregation purposes), with Queen of the South selling up to 3,700 roughly in the Main Stand and Enclosure and the North End. They can't segregate the North End, so I can't see them being able to give Hibs any more (because obviously they can't give us the Main Stand and thus all the seats, all the sides, and all the good facilities).

Queen of the South have recently released plans to rebuild the North End as a seated stand, with a possible extension of the Main Stand. This would give an SPL-suitable capacity of 6,000+ seats, and would leave the Terregles end unused. They also intend to broaden and lengthen the pitch, install undersoil heating, and new floodlights up to UEFA capacity. Quite why, when they are part-timers and going to get relegated, I don't know, but good on them anyway.

Will they have that built by the QF?

Re: crowd capacity

More to the question, why do they want to build it? I don't wish to be rude or insulting to Queen of the South, but apart from a fleeting 2/3 of a season a few years ago under Billy Stark, when they flirted in the top 3 of the First Division, they have never come close to achieving promotion. They are part timers for God's sake. They get in the region of 1,500 for most home games at best - why do they want a UEFA-concordant ground? I can maybe understand the 6,000 seat thing because its just improving not increasing the current facilities, but it seems crazy that part-timers about to get relegated are pushing these plans through.

Re: crowd capacity

When QOS played Aberdeen a few years back, Aberdeen were given a half decent amount of tickets considering the size of the ground.

Hopefully will be the same for us.

Re: crowd capacity

it is unfair to suggest QOS play at another ground. It is the luck of the draw and them getting home advantage is just tough sh1t!!

Say we get a top team in Europe, would you want the game at Murrayfield??

Aye, Gretna!

No danger should they have to move the game just because we are going to be short of tickets.

Re: crowd capacity

No way should it even be suggested that the game be moved, the ground holds more people (admittedly some standing) than would be required of some SPL grounds. We should be perfectly happy with 1,300 tickets.
