John Collins

I think its worth mention, just how well JC has adapted to his role. I know he wasnt everyones first choice but in my opinion has had an excellent start.

He is articulate when talking to the press, jumps about like a supporter when we score. He doesnt get flustered when asked about tweedle dee and tweedle dum. He is dealing with the situation brilliantly and is not afraid to bring in young players.

I think he has been a breath of fresh air and I for one hope he is here for a long time.

Lets hear it for JC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: John Collins

Just on the blooding young players, how many laddies made their debut under Mowbray? Kevin McDonald, and Lewis Stevenson I think both had a few minutes here and there, and I think Sean Lynch might have came on for 5 minutes at some point. Have I missed anyone? Sure that Fletcher made his debut the season before Mowbray arrived.

In John Collins first couple of months in the job he's gave a starting place in important games to McNeil, Stevenson, McCann, and Campbell. It's a pretty bold startegy tbh.

I was thinking the same thing last night. Mowbray was credited with playing a young team but really he had no alternative. When he arrived he was reported as having looked at the shop catalogue with all the players in sunglasses sporting spiky haircuts and thought oh no its all young lads.

He certainly didn't blood many youngsters that i can think of but i'm not sure if this was because he didn't want to or because the next batch weren't ready at that point.

JC was brave last night and it will have given all the young players at the club a massive boost to see last nights team.

Re: John Collins

I think the Mowbray era was the most exciting time in the 18 years Ive been supporting the team.

I think John Collins is taking it forward from there. I think he has been outstanding from the moment he took over.

I do feel that Mowbray was reluctant to bring in the youth players when it was perhaps merited. Collins has been pretty bold in that respect and last night we won somewhere where Mowbray never did...

I cannae help but feel if Mowbs was still here that Glass would always play over Lewis Stevenson, and McCann would never have got near the first team until he had some games on loan.

Aye, I would tend to agree with that.

Speaking of Glass, if someone came in for him we should let him go imo. His main role has been as a cover player for left back and in various positions in midfield. I'd imagine that Stevenson is now ahead of him for left back cover, and he's not going to be close to getting a start in midfield unless we have a brutal run of injuries. Bit of a shame really, because he has had a couple of spells where he looked like he was going to become an important player for us, but it never quite seems to have happened.

Re: John Collins

I think JoCo is doing a great job.

That said, I hope everyone doesn't go ga-ga like they did with Mogga and try to turn him into an untouchable demi-God.

Feet on the ground, this time around please.

He scored a winner against Clyde earlier in the season, but not really heard much about it tbh.

Namedropping here. I was in my local pub the other night and bumped into Kenny Black (Scumbo) who manages Airdrie. He was saying that he is desperate to get McDonald and has a bid in at the moment.

Kevin is back at Hibs now after the loan deal finished. Black said that he felt that maybe he would struggle to get into the Hibs team just now but would be a star for his team. He really rated him. (Mind you, he is a Scumbo).

Thumbs up Re: John Collins

For a man that lost his father (his biggest supporter) last thursday, the 100% effort he put into everything to do with last nights game from selections to interviews says it all about the man to me. JC is a perfect example of a true professional.

I was telling a very well known Hibby the other day that IMO he's the potential to be better than Thomson.

JC should get him back in the squad.

Re: John Collins

The thing that impresses me the most about John Collins is the sheer confidence of the man. He clearly rates his players highly, but he is not scared to make changes when necessary. He seems to go about his job in a very professional manner. I think his friendly, courteous persona however betrays a very strong and tough man who will not stand for any nonsense. I think he desperately wants a trophy for Hibs and hopefully he will achieve that in his first season.

The real test for JC as a manager will be next season when he will have to build his own team. I really hope Petrie realises that the wage levels at the club will have to rise if we are going to attract the calibre of player we need to make us a stronger squad.

Collins knows where he wants to take this great club, and I just hope he is given the backing in the summer when it comes to restructuring the team to his blueprint. Exciting times ahead for all of us in this era.
